Chapter 99 Celebrate Birthday with You
Deanna’s POV:
I stared coldly at the people who called themselves my family.
If that video hadn’t proved my innocence, I’d probably be in jail by now.
Luis pulled me close, his arm firm around my shoulders, and spoke with mocking calm.
“Luna, what if someone pushed you off the second floor? Would a simple sorry fix that?”
Kathryn froze, unable to reply.
Philip stepped in with a stiff smile.

“Mr. Eaton, this is all a misunderstanding. Just a mistake from our adopted daughter. Today is Deanna’s birthday party. Why don’t we celebrate for her now?”
Luis smirked. “Her party hasn’t even started, and she’s already suffering. If the party goes on, how awful will you treat her?”
Philip’s face tightened. For once, I felt a sharp sense of satisfaction.
“Mr. Eaton, you must be joking. Deanna is our biological daughter. We’d never treat her like that,” Philip said quickly.
Luis gave a short, harsh laugh. “Then being your daughter must be a pretty miserable life.”
People around us chuckled, unable to hold it in.
Even I, watching Philip’s face turn red with embarrassment, couldn’t help but smile.
Luis’s tone softened, but his words carried weight. “My woman’s birthday is mine to celebrate.”
Before I knew it, his arm slid under my knees and behind my back. With one strong lift, he carried me off the ground.
The sudden weightless feeling made me gasp. I grabbed onto his shirt collar without thinking.
The stares from the crowd burned against my skin. My cheeks flamed hot as I struggled to push him away.
But Luis never slowed. He just carried me out in front of everyone.
I didn’t even have to wonder what tomorrow’s headlines would say–I could already see them.
“Luis, let me down. It’s my face that hurts, not my legs.”
He lowered his gaze, giving me a sideways look. “What’s this? Now that the problem’s solved, you want to cut ties? Ms. Wiley, have some manners. You could at least say thank you.”
“I didn’t…” My ears burned red with frustration. I didn’t dare to struggle too much, so I muttered under my breath, “Fine, thank you.”
Luis chuckled softly and turned toward the front gate. He carried me away as if the stares of others meant nothing.

Chapter 99 Celebrate Birthday with You
Pressed against his chest, I could hear the rush of his heartbeat.
For a moment, I wasn’t sure if it was his or mine.
Then–boom.

A loud blast split the night sky. Fireworks exploded overhead in red, gold, and violet. They bloomed like flowers, bright enough to light up the entire city.
I lifted my head instinctively. The glow of the fireworks painted Luis’s profile in sharp lines.
His profile stood out sharply in the glow, every line defined by the flickering light. Tiny sparks reflected in his eyes, brighter than the fireworks themselves.
I found myself staring, lost for a moment, until even the sting of that slap faded away.
Luis can
me out of the mansion. A sleek black Lamborghini waited at the curb.
When he set me into the passenger seat, he carefully shielded my head with his hand so I wouldn’t bump it on the doorframe.
The car picked up speed, the neon lights outside racing backward in a blur.
Overhead, more fireworks burst into dazzling colors–red, gold, and violet–showering down like glitter before the wind swept them away past the windows.
Luis kept one hand on the wheel, his knuckles strong and steady. Every so often, he turned to glance at me, a faint smile flickering in his eyes.
My heart still pounded fast, but it wasn’t from fear anymore. Surrounded by the fireworks and with him beside me, the rhythm felt warm, sweet, and almost tender.
So this was what it felt like to be protected by an Alpha–to be held and cherished by someone.
