I woke up to the sound of birds singing outside my window. Their cheerful chirping filtered into my room like a cruel reminder of how light the world could be while my own felt unbearably heavy. I slowly opened my eyes and turned my head toward the window.

Morning sunlight streamed through the curtains, painting the walls in soft gold. Outside, birds flew freely from branch to branch, unbothered, unafraid, living without the weight of expectations, betrayal, or pain.

For a brief moment, I wished my life could be like theirs.

I sighed deeply and pushed myself into a sitting position on the bed. My body felt rested, but my mind certainly wasn’t. Last night, sleep had refused to come easily.

There was a pause before my wolf answered, her tone gentler this time. That is his choice. Your duty is to speak your truth. Whether he believes it or not is no longer your burden.

I exhaled shakily. I’ll tell him, I said. I’ll tell him everything. And if he chooses not to believe me, then that’s on him. I won’t carry the blame anymore.

With a renewed sense of resolve, I slid off the bed and headed straight for the bathroom. I showered quickly, letting the warm water wash over me as if it could rinse away the heaviness clinging to my soul. When I stepped out, I dressed in a simple, comfortable outfit–nothing fancy, nothing that screamed “Luna,” just something that felt like me.

I glanced at the clock on the wall. It was almost time for breakfast

Taking one last steadying breath, I left my room and made my way toward the dining hall.

I didn’t respond. I simply focused on my plate and began to eat pretending her words hadn’t reached my ears. My silence seemed to irritate her even more.

She turned her attention to Ethan almost immediately, her hand brushing his arm possessively. “The full moon is approaching,” she said excitedly. “I’m so thrilled. Soon, I’ll finally get marked.”

She beamed, her eyes shining with anticipation, then slowly turned her gaze toward me.

I looked up and met her stare, a slow, eerie smile curling on my lips. It wasn’t happiness she saw; it was something darker, something that made her shift uncomfortably in her seat.

She quickly looked away and continued talking, her voice growing louder as if to drown out the tension.

Breakfast ended in strained silence.

As Alpha Ethan pushed his chair back, clearly ready to leave, I stood up.

“Ethan,” I said. “I need to talk to you.”

He paused and looked at me, then nodded. “Come with me to my study.”

We were just about to leave when Vera suddenly stood up, panic flashing across her face.

“Ethan, please be careful,” she said, clutching his arm. “Don’t stay alone with her. I don’t want her to hurt me the way she did before.”

I turned to her slowly.

“If I ever get the chance,” I said coldly, “I will hurt you over and over again until you no longer exist on this earth.”

The dining hall went dead silent.

Vera gasped and stepped back, her eyes filling with tears. “She’s threatening me!” she cried. “I don’t want to die. Maybe it’s best if I leave you, Ethan.”

Ethan frowned. “Enough,” he said firmly. “Raven isn’t going to hurt you.”
