hapter 344
Reven’s POV
I was afraid of him now.
Not the sharp, instinctive fear that had lived in my bones since the day I was dragged into this pack, but something colder something that crept into my chest and refused to leave. Fear mixed with rage, thick and choking, because my plan had failed.
If it hadn’t, if the poison had worked the way it should have I would have been free by now.
I slammed my fist into the wooden table in my room, the sound cracking through the silence. Pain shot up my arm, but I welcomed it. The wood split beneath my knuckles, a thin, ugly crack running through its surface.
“Jerk,” I spat, my voice trembling. “Heartless beast.”
I fell back onto the bed, staring at the ceiling as my chest heaved. My mind raced, searching desperately for another way. Poison was no longer an option. Not after today. Not after he had looked at me the way he did, like he knew.
Kill him, my thoughts whispered.
Stop, my wolf growled softly inside me. Abort this plan. You’re walking into death.
I clenched my eyes shut.
Be good, my wolf continued, calmer now. Play the obedient one. He might send you back to your pack if you stop fighting
him.
I laughed bitterly.
“Never,” I whispered. “I’m not giving up. Not after everything.”
A sudden knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts.
I stiffened, my heart slamming against my ribs. Slowly, I got up and crossed the room.
When I opened the door, the familiar warm face of the head maid greeted me. She stood there with eyes soft, hands folded calmly in front of her.
“Good afternoon,” she greeted.
“Good afternoon,” I replied, forcing warmth into my voice.
“May I come in?”
“Why not?” I stepped aside and pushed the door wider.
gentle smile,
She nodded gratefully and walked in, lowering herself onto the chair near the window. Her expression shifted, becoming more serious.
“The Rough King has assigned several tasks to you today,” she said.
I frowned. “Why?”
She hesitated, then said gently, “Today is the memorial of his mate–the Luna. It is also her birthday.”

My breath caught. “Her memorial… on her birthday?”
“Yes,” she said quietly. “They were celebrating her birthday five years ago when the pack was attacked. During the chaos.. the was killed.”
My chest tightened. “On the same day?”
“She and her five–year–old son,” the head maid added softly. “They didn’t survive the attack.”
Silence fell between us.
“He loved her deeply,” she continued. “She was a kind soul. Gentle. The pack adored her. Losing her changed him”
I said nothing.
She reached into her apron and handed me a folded list. I took it and glanced through it.
My heart sank.
Clean the great hall.
Decorate it for the memorial.
Prepare the food.
Serve the guests.
Alone.
“What?” I shouted before I could stop myself. “How am I supposed to do all this by myself?”
“The Rough King said it is your punishment,” she replied calmly as she stood up. “If you stopped getting into trouble, perhaps the punishments would stop.”
With that, she left the room.
I stared at the door long after it closed.
“Fuck you,” I muttered. “You heartless monster.”
Dragging my exhausted body out of the room, I asked around until someone pointed me toward the grea
When I stepped inside, I froze.
The hall was enormous and filthy. Dust coated every surface. Cobwebs hung from the ceiling. The floor looked like it hadn’t been touched in years.
“How does he expect me to clean all this alone?” I whispered, anger burning through me. “Coward“I grabbed a broom and began sweeping. Hours passed. My arms ached. My back screamed in protest. By the time I finished scrubbing the last corner, my body felt like it would collapse.
I stood in the center of the now–clean hall and sighed, sweat dripping down my spine.
No rest.
I moved on to decorating.

Chapter 344
Halfway through, a soft voice spoke behind me.
“Please let me help you.”
I turned to see a young maid, maybe in her early twenties. Her eyes were kind, worried.
“I can’t,” I said quickly. “The Rough King ordered me to do this alone. I don’t want you getting into trouble.”
She shook her head. “I won’t. And this is too much work for one person. You look… exhausted.”
I hesitated, then nodded. “Alright. But if anything happens-”
“It won’t,” she promised. “I see you’re a good person.”
“I’m Raven,” I said quietly.
“Edna,” she replied with a smile.
As we worked, I asked her about herself. She told me her mother had been a maid here before her–until she died seven years ago. Edna had taken her place to survive.
“The Rough King wasn’t always like this,” she said softly. “After his mate and son died… he changed. Completely.”
I listened in silence.
By the time we finished decorating, my legs were trembling. But there was still food to prepare.
Edna insisted on helping again.
In the kitchen, we cooked together, laughing softly, humming as we worked. For a moment, it felt almost normal.
Then guests began arriving.
I served them, forcing a polite smile.
A maid approached me quietly. “The Rough King wants to see you.”
My stomach dropped.
I nodded and went to his chambers.
“Why did you call me?” I asked when I stood before him.
“There will be many guests tonight,” he said coldly. “Alphas from different packs.”
“I know,” I replied. “What does that have to do with me?”
He leaned forward, his eyes dark. “You will perform for them.”
I frowned. “Perform… what?”
“Stop pretending to be stupid,” he snapped, his gaze roaming over my body. “You’re not a child.”
My skin crawled.
“You’re beautiful,” he continued calmly. “Still well–shaped. Even after two children.”
