Chapter 370
Alpha Ethan’s POV
“No. You’re lying.”

The words tore out of my throat, sharp and desperate, as if saying them louder would force the truth to bend.
The woman didn’t flinch.
She only looked at me with that look the kind people wear when they’re standing over a grave and don’t know what else to say. Pity. Heavy, suffocating pity.
“I’m not,” she said quietly. “She’s dead. Her body has already been taken away. You need to leave this place; it isn’t safe.”
The world tilted.
Dead.
Taken away.
Leave.
The words made no sense, strung together like a cruel joke. My hands clenched into fists so tight my nails cut into my palms, but I didn’t feel the pain. I didn’t feel anything except the roaring in my ears.
“No,” I said again, shaking my head. “You didn’t see her die. You don’t know that. You don’t get to tell me she’s dead.”
Her gaze softened even more, and that was what broke something in me.
“I’m sorry, Alpha,” she whispered. “I truly am.”
Something inside my chest collapsed.
I turned away before she could say anything else, before the lie could settle into the air and become real.
My boots crunched against broken glass as I walked back toward the open yard, my eyes scanning every shadow, every dark corner, every bloodstain on the ground.
Nobody.
No proof.
No goodbye.
Matthew caught up to me near the edge of the compound. His face was drawn, his jaw clenched tight like he was holding back words he didn’t want to say
We have to leave,” he said “Now The Rough Pack could come back at any moment. We’re outnumbered Ethan. If they eturn, there’s no way we can fight them”

“I said I’m not leaving.” I turned to face him, my eyes burning. “Not until I see her body. I’m not going anywhere without her.”
Matthew exhaled sharply. “Listen to me. I know you’re hurting, but this isn’t rational. Staying here will get us killed.”
“I don’t care.”
The words came out flat. Empty.
Matthew stared at me like he didn’t recognize me anymore. “You don’t mean that.”
“I do.” My voice cracked. “If she’s dead, then this place can kill me too. I’m not walking away like she never existed.”
He stepped closer, lowering his voice. “Ethan, please. Think about the pack. Think about your children.”
That did it.
My legs gave out.
I dropped to my knees right there in the dirt, the smell of smoke and blood choking the surrounding air. My hands shook as I reached into my pocket and pulled out the bracelet.
Her bracelet.
The one she never took off. The one I had clasped around her wrist myself.
I clutched it to my chest like it was the last piece of her left in this world.
Moon Goddess, please.
My lips moved soundlessly at first, then the words came out in a broken whisper.
“Moon Goddess, please bring her back to me. Wherever she is, wherever you’ve taken her… just bring her back. I don’t care how. I don’t mind what it costs.”
My throat burned.
“I’ve already lost her once. I can’t lose her again. Please.”
The wind stirred, cold and hollow, but there was no answer.
I pushed myself to my feet slowly, my body feeling heavy like I was carrying grief in my bones. Without looking at Matthew, I turned and walked toward the car.
He followed in silence.
I slid into the passenger seat, slamming the door harder than necessary. Matthew started the engine and pulled away the tires kicking up dust behind us as we left the battlefield behind.
Halfway down the road, I opened the compartment beside me and pulled out a bottle.
Matthew’s hand shot out, slamming it shut.
“Don’t try that shit,” he snapped. “Not now. This isn’t the time to drink.”

I laughed, a short, broken sound that didn’t belong to me anymore.

“Oh? Then what do you want me to do?” I yelled, yanking the bottle back out. “Sit quietly and accept that I’ll never see her again? Not even her corpse? You want me to act like everything is fine?”
“That’s not what I said!”
“Then what are you saying?” I roared. “Because from where I’m sitting, you still have everything. Your mate. Your children. A life that hasn’t been ripped apart three times.”
My hand shook as I poured the drink into my mouth, the burn doing nothing to numb the pain.
“Three times,” I shouted. “Do you know what it feels like to be mate–less for the third time? To watch the Moon Goddess give you hope just to tear it away again? Why is my life always a mess?”
Matthew didn’t answer.
He just drove.
The rest of the ride back to the pack house passed in a blur of darkness and silence. When we finally stopped, it wasn’t home.
It was the warehouse.
The one where we had kept the Rough King’s sister.
Matthew turned off the engine and looked at me. “What do we do about her now?”
I stared straight ahead. “I don’t know.”
“You don’t want to hurt her,” he said gently.
“No,” I admitted. “I don’t.”
“We can’t release her either,” Matthew continued. “She’s lost everyone. She has nowhere to go.”
I sighed and opened the car door.
“Let’s talk to her.”
The warehouse was cold and dim, the air thick with tension. She was still tied to the chair, her head slumped forward, exhaustion etched into every line of her face.
I nodded to the guards. “Untie her.”
They hesitated, then obeyed.
She looked up when the ropes fell away, her eyes widening in shock as she saw me standing there.
“Where is my brother?” she demanded, her voice shaking. “Where is he?”
