Reven’s POV

I was running.

Bare feet slapped against cold ground as darkness swallowed everything around me. The air burned my lungs, each breath scraping painfully down my throat. I didn’t know where I was running to or from, but terror chased me relentlessly, clawing at my spine.

“Reven!”

The voice boomed behind me.

I stumbled, nearly falling, my heart slamming violently against my ribs.

“No, I whispered breathlessly. “That’s not my name.”

I turned.

A man stood a few steps away from me, half–hidden by shadows. Tall. Broad–shouldered. His presence alone was overwhelming, like the air bent around him. Moonlight cut across his face, revealing sharp features, eyes glowing with something dangerous and desperate.

Love.

Possession.

Pain.

“Reven,” he said again, softer this time, stepping closer. “Why are you running from me?”

I backed away instinctively. “You’ve got the wrong person,” I said, shaking my head. “My name is Mira.”

His brows furrowed. Hurt flickered across his face before being replaced by certainty.

“No,” he said firmly. “You are my Reven. I could never mistake you for anyone else.”

A sharp ache bloomed in my chest.

Behind him, two small figures appeared children.

A little boy and a girl.

Their eyes were wide, glossy with tears as they stared at me.

“Mommy?” the girl whispered.

The word sliced straight through me.

My breath hitched. “No… no, that’s not-”

“Don’t you miss us?” the boy asked quietly. “You promised you’d always come home.”

My head throbbed violently. Images tried to force their way into my mind hands tangled in dark hair, laughter echoing through a house I didn’t recognize, warmth, safety, but I shoved them away.

“I’m not her,” I cried. “I don’t know you. I’m not Reven!”

The man reached for me.

The moment his fingers brushed my arm, my skin burned.

“Come home,” he pleaded, his voice breaking. “The kids need you. I need you.”

Tears streamed down my face as I pulled away. “Please,” I sobbed. “You’re hurting me. I don’t belong to you.”

His expression hardened, fear flashing across his eyes.

“You’re confused,” he said urgently. “Just like before. But I won’t let you disappear again.”

I turned and ran.

Heavy footsteps thundered behind me.

“Reven!” he shouted. “Stop!”

A strong hand grabbed my wrist.

I screamed.

“Let go of me!” I shrieked, thrashing wildly. “Leave me alone!”

The world shattered

I bolted upright in bed with a sharp gasp, my chest heaving violently as sweat drenched my skin. My hands flew to my throat as I struggled to breathe, panic squeezing my lungs like a vice.

It took several seconds before I realized

I was in the hospital.

White walls.

Machines humming softly.

Reality.

But the terror didn’t fade.

My hands trembled uncontrollably as I dragged in shaky breaths, my heart still racing as if he were right there in the room with me.

“Just a dream,” I whispered hoarsely. “Just a nightmare.”

But it didn’t feel like one.

Something about it felt… real.

Too real.

I wiped my face with shaking hands, only then noticing the thin chain resting against my skin, My fingers brushed against something small and solid at the base of my neck.

A necklace.

Frowning, I lifted it carefully.

With cautious fingers, I opened the small pendant. –

Inside was a picture.

The man.

The same man from my dream.

“That’s… me,” I whispered.

The woman in the picture looked happy. Peaceful. Her smile was soft, genuine–nothing like the constant fear living inside my chest now.

My hands shook harder.

“Was I… married?” I murmured. “Did I have children?”

The thought terrified me.

If that life was real… then who was Mira?

The door creaked open.

I snapped the necklace shut and shoved it beneath the blanket just as footsteps approached.

Edna.

She entered quietly, her face tired but hopeful. The moment she saw I was awake, relief flooded her expression.

“You’re awake,” she said softly. “I didn’t want to wake you. You were restless.”

I swallowed hard. “Edna… can I ask you something?”

She nodded, pulling a chair closer. “Anything.”

My fingers clenched the blanket. “Did I… was I married?”

She frowned slightly. “Married? No.”

My heart skipped.

“Are you sure?” I asked quickly. “Did I have children?”

Edna shook her head firmly. “No. Reven–you weren’t married. You didn’t have kids. I swear.”

Relief clashed violently with confusion.

“Then who is he?” I whispered, pulling the necklace–out and opening it.

Edna froze.

Her face drained of color as she stared at the picture.

“Where did you get that?” she asked sharply.

“It was on me,” I said. “Who is he?”

She looked away, jaw tightening. “I don’t know him.”

“That’s a lie,” I whispered.

She hesitated, then sighed shakily. “I’ve never seen him before. And I know for a fact you weren’t married. We were on the run from the Rough King before the attack. You didn’t have time for a life like that.”

My head began to pound again.

“Then why do I remember him?” I asked quietly. “Why does it feel like I belonged to him?”

Edna reached for my hand. “Memories can get twisted after head trauma. Dreams feel real. But that doesn’t mean they are.”

I wanted to believe her.

But deep down…

I knew the nightmare wasn’t finished with me.

The door opened again later that day.

I was half–awake, staring at the ceiling, tracing invisible cracks that weren’t really there, when unfamiliar footsteps entered the room. He didn’t rush. Whoever it was moved with calm confidence.

I turned my head slowly.

A man stood near the foot of my bed, dressed in a crisp white coat. He looked to be in his late forties, with tired eyes that had seen too many patients walk the thin line between life and death.

“Good afternoon,” he said gently. “I’m Dr. Hale. How are you feeling?”

I hesitated. “Tired. Confused.”

He nodded as if he’d expected that. “That’s understandable.”

He stepped closer, checking the machines beside me, reading numbers and lines that meant nothing to me. Then he picked up a small flashlight.

“I’m going to examine you,” he said calmly. “I’ll need you to follow my instructions, alright?”

I nodded.

He checked my eyes, shining the light gently into them, asking me to follow his finger as he moved it slowly from side to side. My head ached, but, I did as he asked. He tested my reflexes, my grip, my balance as much as he could without making

me move too much.
