Chapter 382

Reven’s POV

Morning came quickly. I wasn’t prepared for this because I was mentally and physically exhausted from yesterday. My body felt heavy, like someone had replaced my bones with wet sand during the night.

Even opening my eyes felt like work. For a few seconds, I lay there staring at the unfamiliar ceiling, waiting for that strange disorientation to pass the one that had become my unwanted companion since I woke up in this new life with no memories.

I signed as I said I had to go to work. It was just my second day there, and I didn’t want to have problems already. Problems meant attention. Attention meant questions. Questions meant things I couldn’t answer.

Pulling the blanket tighter around my body, I forced myself to sit up. The room was quiet except for the faint sounds of the clock ticking

As my feet touched the cold floor, a shiver ran up my spine. I couldn’t help thinking about everything that had been happening in my life lately- or what little I knew of it.

Who was I before all this?

What kind of person had I been?

Did I laugh easily? Did I love someone? Did someone love me?

I walked to the small kitchen and made myself coffee, the bitter smell filling the air. The routine felt natural, like my body remembered what my mind could not. I leaned against the counter, holding the warm cup between my palms, trying to summon anything- a face, a voice, a place.

Nothing.

Just the same blank wall.

Edna had only told me that we both worked for a ruthless king as maids before we were attacked by rogues. That attack had landed me in the hospital and stolen my memories. Simple. Clean. Convenient.

Too convenient.

The one person who stayed with me, cared for me, fed me, and protected me refused to tell me anything more about my past. It was like she was guarding a door I desperately needed to open.

And it was annoying.

This was my life before. Why wouldn’t she tell me everything?

Either she was hiding something

Or she was protecting me from something.

My mind drifted to darker possibilities.

Abuse.

It was the only explanation that made sense sometimes. Maybe my past was so painful she didn’t want me to relive it. Maybe

I had begged her not to tell me if I ever forgot. Maybe I had been broken long before the rogues attacked.

And the truth was.. I didn’t know how to repay her except by being nice back.

She studied me carefully. Where are you going this early?

I blinked at her. Have you forgotten? I’m working now.”

Her brows drew together instantly. Why do you want to rush to work? Your body hasn’t recovered from youently’s ASE and you still want to go?

I have to go.I said softly. I’m perfectly fine now.

Her eyes narrowed slightly, searching my face. Are you sure you’re okay?

I nodded. Yes. It was just stress from yesterday.

She sighed, clearly unconvinced. Okay. I’m not going to stop you from going to work.

Relief flooded me, and I smiled, stepping forward to hold her hands.

Thank you for everything you’ve been doing for me,I said sincerely. When I get my first paycheck, line you someting

She laughed softly and shook her head. Don’t worry yourself.

No,” I insisted. I want to.

We both laughed, the sound light and warm, but something inside me still felt unsettled

The morning air was cool and crisp. I flagged down a taxi and boarded it, giving the driver the mall’s name

As the car moved, I watched the city pass by in blurs of color and motion. Everything felt both familiar and ange file had lived here forever and arrived only yesterday at the same time.

When we arrived at the mall, I paid the driver and hurried inside.

Today I was working two shifts.

I needed the money.

And honestlywork kept my mind busy.

The day passed quickly. Customers came one after another, and I threw myself into helping them recommending products, answering questions, smiling until my cheeks hurt.

Something surprising happened.

Customers liked me.

Some even asked specifically for me to be their sales representative. Their compliments warmed something inside my chest that had been cold for a long time.

For the first time since waking up with no memories, I feltuseful.

Like I belonged somewhere.

But not everyone was happy.

I noticed the change in attitude from some of my colleagues. Whispered conversations that stopped when I approached. Side glances. Forced smiles.

I brushed it off.

Maybe they were just getting used to me.

After five long hours, exhaustion hit me like a wave. My feet ached, my back throbbed, and my head felt foggy.

I went to the changing room, removed my uniform, and put back on my regular clothes. Then I headed to the cashier to submit my sales report.

They were impressed.

Very impressed.

You brought in a lot of clients today, the cashier said, looking at the numbers.

I smiled shyly. I just did my job.

I was about to leave the mall when the receptionist called after me.

Reven The manager wants to see you.”

My heart skipped.

The manager rarely saw anyone unless it was necessary.

Okay,I said, though my stomach tightened with anxiety.

Had I done something wrong?

Was I too slow? Too pushy? Too something?

I walked to his office and knocked.

Come in.

Inside, the manager sat behind his desk, typing on his computer. He didn’t look up immediately.

Have a seat.

I sat, folding my hands in my lap, trying not to fidget.

Finally, he looked at me.

It’s been two days since you started working here,he said. And you’ve already surpassed the sales targets of some long- term employees.”

My eyes widened.

II just tried my best, sir.

He nodded. That’s exactly why we’re increasing your salary.”

For a moment, I thought I had misheard him.

Increasingmy salary?”

Yes.

Joy exploded inside me. I stood abruptly, bowing slightly.

Thank you, sir! Thank you so much!

He smiled faintly. Keep up the good work.”

I thanked him over and over before leaving his office, my heart racing with excitement.

More money meant less burden on Edna.

More independence.
