Chapter 383
Reven’s POV
I was about to board the bus home when someone called my name.
“Mira”
I turned sharply, my hand still gripping the metal rail of the bus door. The late afternoon heat wrapped around me like a heavy blanket, the smell of fuel and dust thick in the air.
Behind me, weaving through the small crowd of workers and shoppers, was the manager. She looked like someone who had been running, her neat hair slightly out of place, her breathing uneven, one hand clutching the strap of her handhag
For a moment, I just stared at her, confused.
What’s wrong? Why is she running after me?
We had literally just spoken not less than seven minutes ago. She had congratulated me on the promotion, given me a few instructions for tomorrow, and that was it. Nothing urgent. Nothing that required sprinting across the parking lot.
My heart began to beat faster for no reason.
Had I done something wrong already?
The driver shouted, “Madam, are entering or not?” but I stepped back from the bus before I could even think. Something in the manager’s face told me this wasn’t something to ignore.
She finally reached me, slightly bent forward as she caught her breath.
“Oh good…. I caught you,” she said between breaths.
“Ma… is everything okay?” I asked carefully.
She straightened, smoothing her blouse as if trying to regain her professional composure. “Yes, yes. I just forgot to tell you one more thing.”
Her words snapped me out of the spiral forming in my head.
“One more thing?”
She nodded, then opened her bag and pulled out a cream–colored envelope. It looked expensive thick paper, gold lining along the edges, my name written neatly across the front in elegant handwriting.
She held it out to me.
“For you.”
I blinked, not taking it immediately. “For… me?”
“Yes. Open it.”
My fingers felt oddly clumsy as I accepted the envelope. It was heavier than I expected. Carefully, I slid my finger under the flap and opened it, pulling out a glossy card.
The moment I read the bold gold letters, my breath caught.

Mall 21st Anniversary Celebration Exclusive Invitation
Date. Time. Venue. Dress code.
My eyes widened.
I looked up at her in disbelief. “Ma… are you sure this is for me?”
She nodded with a small smile. “Yes, Reven. It’s yours. You’re invited.”
“But… I just started working here two days ago.”

“I know,” she said gently. “I should have given it to you earlier. It’s a company event. All employees will be there old and new. You should come.”
I looked down at the card again, my mind struggling to process it. An exclusive anniversary party? Me? A girl who didn’t even remember her own past?
“Ma, I don’t even know the city well,” I admitted. “It might be hard for me to find this place.”
She waved a hand dismissively. “Oh, don’t worry. It’s very popular. Just ask around–any driver will know it. You won’t miss your way.”
I nodded slowly, still unsure.
“Try to come, okay?” she added kindly. “It will be good for you.”
“Thank you, ma,” I said softly.
She smiled, satisfied, then turned and walked back toward the mall entrance, leaving me standing there with the envelope clutched in my hand.
The ride home felt unusually quiet.
I sat in the taxi staring at the invitation, my thoughts spinning in a dozen directions. Outside, the city lights flickered on one by one as evening crept in, neon signs reflecting against the windows like scattered stars.
Why me?
I had only been there for two days. Two days. I barely knew anyone’s name yet. I was still learning where things were kept, still making mistakes, still feeling like an outsider.
Maybe they invited everyone, I told myself.
Yes. That had to be it.
Still… something about it didn’t sit right.
I tried not to overthink it. Tried to brush it off as just a company event. But no matter how hard I tried, one thing refused to leave my mind.
Sophia.
Her voice replayed in my head, sharp and cold.
“You’ll regret this.”

Chapter 383
A shiver ran through me despite the warm air inside the cab
She didn’t mean it, I told myself firmly. People say things when they’re angry.
Right?
“Madam, you’re reach,” the driver said
His voice snapped me out of my thoughts.
I blinked, realizing we were already in front of the house.
“Oh… thank you.”
Today had been such a hectic day. My body felt heavy, my head full, my heart strangely unsettled.

I paid him and stepped out, the night air cooler against my skin. The familiar small house stood quietly under the streetlight, its windows glowing softly.
Home.
I walked inside.
Edna was already there, sitting on the couch with a bowl of something in her lap. She looked up immediately.
“You’re back! How was work? I thought you had a night shift, I asked her”
“I did,” she said, as I dropped my bag onto a chair. “I just got back, she said”
I collapsed onto the bed with a groan, staring up at the ceiling.
Edna frowned. “Are you okay?”
“No,” I admitted quietly. “I’m not okay.”
She immediately put her bowl aside and sat up straight, concern filling her face. “What happened? Did they fire you? Did you fight with someone?”
I shook my head. “No. Nothing like that.”
“Then what is it?”
I hesitated before saying, “I got promoted.”
Her eyes widened. “That’s good news na! Why are you looking like someone died?”
“I know it’s good,” I said, frustration creeping into my voice. “But Sophia threatened me.“,
“Who is Sophia?”
“A colleague. She overheard the manager saying I would be promoted. She’s been working there longer than me and hasn’t gotten one. She was… jealous.”
Edna reached out and squeezed my shoulder. “Don’t think too much about it. People talk. It doesn’t mean anything.”
“You didn’t hear the certainty in her voice,” I whispered.

Chapter 383
Edna rolled her eyes dramatically, take a chill pill. Nothing will happen to you. Not when I’m still alive.”
I couldn’t help smiling at that. Warmth spread through my chest as I hugged her tightly.
“You’re the best friend anyone could ask for.”
She grinned. “Say it again.”
I laughed, then remembered something. “Oh! One more thing.”
“What?”
“The manager invited me to the mall’s 21st anniversary party.”
Her face lit up. “That’s great! You can meet important people – businessmen and women. Networking!”

“Yes… but I don’t have anything to wear,” I said softly. “I haven’t bought any clothes yet. I don’t even have money.”
Edna waved a hand dismissively. “I’ll lend you one of my dresses and shoes.”
I stared at her. “You’ll really do that for me?”
“Of course. What are friends for?”
Emotion tightened my throat as I hugged her again.
“Once I get my first paycheck, I’ll spoil you.”
“Nooo,” she protested, laughing. “Keep your money. You have bills to sort out.”
“No, I will.”
“Oh, Reven wants to pamper me,” she teased.
We both burst into laughter.
For a while, everything felt normal. Light. Safe.
By the time the clock read 9 PM, I excused myself to get ready.
Warm water cascaded over my skin as I showered, washing away the day’s sweat and tension. I stood there longer than necessary, letting the water drum against my back, trying to quiet the strange nervousness building inside me.
When I came out, I dried my body carefully and applied lotion, the familiar scent grounding me.
Edna’s dress lay neatly on the bed.
It was a simple floral dress–soft fabric, flowing just above my knees. Not too tight, not too revealing, but it hugged my body in all the right places.
I slipped into it.
It fit perfectly.
I paired it with black leather heels and a small gold purse Edna insisted I take. Standing in front of the mirror, I hardly recognized the girl staring back at me.

Chapter 383
She looked… beautiful.
Edna helped with my hair, styling it in soft waves, then applied a light touch of makeup
“See fine girl,” she said proudly.
I smiled shyly.
When I checked the time, my eyes widened.
“Past 10 PM?! I’m late!”
“Go, go!” she laughed.
I hurried out, my heart already racing.
Outside, I flagged down a taxi and gave the driver the address from the invitation.
As the car pulled away, I sank into the seat, clutching my purse tightly.
My heart pounded loudly in my chest.
A part of me wanted to tell the driver to turn around. To go back home. To crawl into bed and pretend this night didn’t exist.
But I forced myself to breathe slowly.
Nothing will go wrong, I told myself. It’s just a party.
Right?
The city lights blurred past the window, glowing streaks of yellow and white. The farther we drove, the more unfamiliar the surroundings became – taller buildings, brighter lights, heavier traffic.
My palms began to sweat.
I didn’t know why.
Maybe it was because everything in my life still felt unstable. Because I didn’t even know who I was before waking up in that hospital bed. Because every new experience felt like stepping into darkness.
Or maybe…
Maybe it was the strange feeling in my chest. Like something was waiting for me. Something I couldn’t see yet.
I swallowed hard and tightened my grip on my purse.
The taxi slowed as we approached a brightly lit building in the distance, music faintly audible even through the closed windows.
“Madam, we don almost reach,” the driver said.
My heart slammed painfully against my ribs.
This was it.
No turning back now.
