Chapter 387
Chapter 387
Reven’s POV
I didn’t go with him that night.

No matter how his voice lingered in my ears… no matter how Lucian’s small arms had wrapped around me like I was something precious.
No matter how my heart had trembled when Alpha Ethan looked at me as if he already owned my past, present, and future.
I turned away from the parking lot.
Away from the black car.
Away from him.
And walked home.
The night air was cool, but my skin felt hot, feverish, like something inside me was burning. Every step felt heavy and unsteady, as if the ground might crack open beneath my feet at any moment.
Play the role of a mother to my children.
My stomach twisted violently.
What kind of man makes a deal like that?
What kind of man claims you as his wife in front of strangers…. threatens your job, your freedom, your life… and still expects you to come willingly?
By the time I reached our building, my head was pounding.
Home.
I needed Edna.
I needed something real.
I pushed the door open.
She was on the couch, scrolling through her phone, a half–eaten plate of food on the small table beside her. The TV murmured softly in the background.
She looked up.
And froze.
“Reven?” Concern flooded her face instantly. “What happened to you?”
I hadn’t realized how wrecked I must look – pale, shaken, eyes swollen, hair a mess, clothes wrinkled like I’d slept in them.
“I… I need to talk to you.”
Her posture straightened immediately.

“Okay. Come sit.”

I sank beside her, my hands trembling in my lap. For a moment, I couldn’t speak. The words felt too big, too dangerous, and
too real.
“Reven,” she said softly, “you’re scaring me.”
“I saw him again.”
Her brows furrowed. “Who?”
“The man from the milkshake shop.”
The room went still.
“And?” she asked cautiously.
“He’s Alpha Ethan.”
Her eyes widened so much I thought they might pop out.
“WHAT?”
Her voice echoed through the tiny apartment.
“You mean that Alpha Ethan? The billionaire Alpha? The one who owns half the companies in this city? That Alpha Ethan?”
I nodded weakly.
“And… he says I’m his wife.”
Silence dropped like a stone.
“… Excuse me?”
“He says I’m his wife,” I repeated, my voice barely steady. “And that Lucian–the boy–is his son. And I’m their mother.”
Edna stared at me like I had lost my mind.
“That’s insane.”
“I know.”
“That’s not just insane, Reven; that’s dangerous.”
I swallowed.
“He also said that if I don’t cooperate, he’ll accuse me of kidnapping his son.”
Her face darkened immediately.
“What?!”
“And I’ll lose my job… and possibly go to jail.”
Edna shot to her feet, pacing the room furiously.

“No. No, absolutely not. You are not going anywhere near that man again.”
“Edna-”

“No!” she snapped. “Listen to yourself! He’s threatening you, manipulating you, and forcing you into some twisted arrangement. That is not normal!”
I looked down at my hands.
“He said he wants me to play the role of a mother to his children.”
She stopped pacing.
Turned slowly.
Her expression had changed.
Not just anger.
Something else.
Something almost like fear.
“You’re not going,” she said quietly. Firmly. Finally.
My chest tightened.
“Why are you reacting like this?” I asked softly. “You’re acting like… like you know something.”
She froze.
Only for a second.
But I saw it.
My heart began to pound.
“Edna… what aren’t you telling me?”
“Nothing,” she said quickly.
“Don’t lie to me.”
“I’m not lying! I just-” She exhaled sharply. “I just want you to be safe.”
Safe.
The word hung between us.
“I’ll be safe,” I said gently. “He’s not going to hurt me.”
Her laugh was harsh.
“You don’t know that.”
“I know I can’t keep living like this,” I replied, my voice trembling. “Maybe he knows something about me. About my past.

Maybe this is the only way to find out.”
“Or maybe you just want his money.”
The accusation hit like a slap.
My head snapped up. “What?”
Edna’s eyes flashed.

“Let’s stop pretending, Reven. You didn’t accept that deal because you’re afraid of losing your job or going to jail.”
My stomach dropped.
“You accepted it because of Alpha Ethan’s money.”
The words sliced deep.
“That’s not true.”
“Isn’t it?” she shot back. “You saw how rich he is the cars, the power, the way people bow to him. You think going with him will solve all your problems.”
Anger flared through me, hot and sharp.
“That’s not why!”
“Then why?” she demanded. “Why would any sane woman agree to become a baby mama to a man she doesn’t even remember?”
“Because I don’t remember anything!” I exploded. “I don’t know who I am, where I came from, why a child calls me Mommy, or why that man looks at me like I belong to him! I have nothing, Edna! Nothing except questions!”
My voice broke.
Silence swallowed the room.
Tears burned my eyes, but I forced them back.
“I’m grateful you care,” I said more quietly. “I really am. But it’s my life. And I’ve already made my decision.”
Her face hardened.
“I won’t let you go.”
“You can’t stop me.”
“I won’t stand by and watch you ruin your life.”
“I’m not ruining it!”
“You’re walking into a cage!”
“Maybe I’m tired of running from ghosts!”
The words echoed harshly between us.

Edna’s shoulders slumped slightly, hurt flashing across her face.
“You don’t understand,” she whispered.
“Then explain it to me,” I pleaded. “Tell me what you’re so afraid of.”
She looked away.
“I just want you safe.”
My chest ached.
“That’s not an answer.”
No response.
Only silence.
Thick.
Painful.
Final.
“I’m going,” I said quietly.
Her jaw tightened.
“I won’t support it.”
“I’m not asking you to.”
She flinched.
We both knew the conversation was over.
We went to bed without speaking again.
No goodnight.
No apology.
Nothing.
The apartment felt colder than usual, like the warmth had been sucked out of the walls.

I lay awake for hours, staring at the ceiling, replaying every moment from the mall. Lucian’s hopeful eyes. Ethan’s possessive tone. The way he said my name Reven like it belonged to him.
Sleep finally came, shallow and restless.
Morning arrived too soon.
I dragged myself out of bed, my head heavy, eyes swollen. Sunlight filtered weakly through the curtains, making everything
look washed out and dull.

When I stepped into the living room, Edna was already there, dressed for work, sipping tea.
She didn’t look at me.
Didn’t say anything.
“Edna…” I started softly.
Nothing.
“I’m sorry.”
Silence.
Guilt twisted painfully in my chest.
“I didn’t mean to hurt you. I just need to figure this out.”
Her grip tightened on her cup, but she still didn’t respond.
I glanced at the clock.
Late.
Panic surged.
“I’ll talk to you when I get back, okay?”
No answer.
“I really am sorry.”
Still nothing.
My throat burned as I grabbed my bag and left.
Work felt endless.
Every smile was forced.
Every conversation sounded distant.
I kept checking the entrance without meaning to, half–expecting him to appear at any moment.
He didn’t.
By the time my shift ended, exhaustion clung to me like a second skin.
I changed, clocked out, and stepped outside into the cool evening air.
Freedom.
Temporary.
Fragile.
