Chapter 388

Chapter 388

Alpha Ethan’s POV

Drive.

My voice came out colder than I intended, sharper too, but I didn’t bother correcting it. The driver nodded immediately and pulled away from the curb.

I leaned back into the leather seat, closing my eyes for a brief second.

I didn’t want to see her face again.

Not tonight.

Because if I didif I stayed even a moment longerI might have done something reckless. Something desperate. Something that would push her further away instead of pulling her back.

And I could not afford that.

Not now.

Not when she was finally within reach again.

The city lights blurred past the window, streaks of gold and white cutting through the darkness. Usually, the sight calmed me. Tonight, it only made the silence in the car heavier.

Everything about her replayed in my mind.

The way she stood there.

The way she looked at me not with hatred, not with lovebut with confusion. Distance. Caution.

Like I was a stranger.

My jaw tightened.

That look hurt more than anger ever could.

Reven had never looked at me like that before.

Not even on our worst days.

I exhaled slowly, rubbing my temple.

Why was she behaving this way?

Why did she act like the things that once mattered to her meant nothing now?

She didn’t remember the café where we used to argue over coffee because she always stole mine after finishing hers.

She didn’t remember the park where Lucian took his first steps while she cried and laughed at the same time.

She didn’t remember the old bookstore she loved, the one that smelled like dust and rain and stories.

Chapter 888

And today-

The mall

A week before she was taken by the Rogue King, I had brought her there. She had dragged me into stores I didn’t care about, laughed at how impatient I was, and made me carry bags until my arms hurt.

She had been radiant.

Alive.

Minc.

Today she walked those same halls like she had never seen them before.

No recognition.

No flicker of memory.

Nothing.

My eyes opened slowly, staring at the passing streetlights.

Either she wasn’t herself

Or she was pretending.

And if she was pretending….

Then she deserved an award for the greatest performance in history.

Because even my wolf was confused.

He didn’t react to her like a stranger.

He reacted like she was home.

A muscle in my jaw twitched.

I’m sure she isn’t herself,I muttered under my breath.

Or at leastI wanted to believe that.

Because the alternative was unbearable.

The car slowed.

We’re home, Alpha, the driver said respectfully.

I blinked, realizing we had reached the pack house without me noticing the journey at all.

A sigh escaped me, heavy with frustration and exhaustion.

Good,I said, opening the door.

The night air was cooler here, cleaner than the city. The massive structure of the pack house loomed ahead, lights glowing.

warmly in the windows.

Home.

But lately, it hadn’t felt like one.

I walked inside, my footsteps echoing faintly in the quiet halls. Most of the pack members had retired for the night. Only a few guards stood at their posts, nodding respectfully as I passed.

I didn’t go to my room.

I never did.

Not before seeing them.

My children.

Their room door was slightly ajar, soft light spilling into the hallway. Faint giggles drifted out, accompanied by the sound of toys clattering.

I pushed the door open gently.

All three of them were on the floor, surrounded by building blocks and stuffed animals, completely absorbed in their game.

Lucian saw me first.

DADDY!

She shot to her feet and ran toward me at full speed, nearly knocking into my legs before wrapping her arms tightly around

  1. me.

I bent automatically, lifting her into my arms as she hugged me again once, twice as if confirming I was really there.

Then Lyra and Zara rushed over too, piling into the embrace.

I chuckled softly, warmth spreading through my chest for the first time all evening.

My little angels,I murmured, kissing Lucian’s head before gently tapping the othersforeheads. How are you doing?

We’re fine!they chorused.

Daddy, Daddy,Zara said eagerly, bouncing on her toes. How was work?

I set Lucy down and loosened my tie.

Work was fine,I said. Very stressful.

Lucian, who had remained seated but was watching me carefully, spoke up.

I can see it in your eyes, Dad.

I blinked.

Leave it to him.

He had always been observant beyond his years.

A small smile tugged at my lips. Good job, buddy. For seeing that your dad is stressed.

Then Lyra asked, completely out of nowhere:

DadLucian told us we now have a mommy.”

My heart stopped.

Lucian shot her a look. I thought we agreed not to tell Daddy!

Lyra winced. I knowbut I can’t help it. I just want to make sure it’s true. I miss Mommy.

The room fell silent.

Pain lanced through my chest at her small, hopeful voice.

I crouched down so I was at their level.

It’s true,I said softly. You now have a mommy.

Three pairs of eyes widened.

Zara’s lower lip trembled slightly. Really?

I nodded.

Yes.

Lucian stayed quiet, watching me intently, as if trying to read something deeper beneath my words.

Zara spoke again. Lucian said she looks just like our old mommy. Is that true?

My throat tightened.

Yes,” I said carefully. She does.

How did you find a new mommy that looks like our old one?Lyra asked.

I hesitated.

Then gave the only answer that wouldn’t complicate things.

It’s the Moon Goddess.”

They exchanged looks.

Hmmm,” Lucy said thoughtfully, apparently satisfied.

I handed them the shopping bags I had brought from the mall.

I got you something.

Excited squeals filled the room as they tore into the packages, pulling out toys, clothes, and sweets.

Their laughter eased something tight inside my chest.

These children

They were my reason to keep going.

ason

Even when everything else felt like it was falling apart.

I have to excuse myself,” I said gently. Work.

They barely noticed, already absorbed in their treasures.

I left the room with a small smile on my face.

The smile faded the moment I reached my study.

Matthew was inside, standing behind my desk, sorting through a stack of files.

He looked up immediately.
