Chapter 394
Reven’s POV
The men came and sat down beside me.
Not politely. Not cautiously.
They simply occupied the empty chairs at the table as if they belonged there, as if I were the intruder, not them.
My spine went rigid instantly.
Up close, they were even more intimidating. Both were tall, broad–shouldered, and dressed in expensive dark suits that strained slightly over powerful frames.
Their presence swallowed the air around them, drawing attention without either of them speaking a word.
Even the soft golden light from the chandeliers seemed to bend around them, unable to soften the sharp edges of their features.
I forced my hands to remain still on my lap, though every instinct screamed at me to stand up and leave.
One of them, the one with lighter eyes and a faint scar along his jaw, leaned back in his chair, studying me with unsettling calm, like a predator deciding whether its prey was worth the effort.
“Relax,” he said smoothly. “We’re not here to hurt you,”
His voice was deep, controlled… practiced. The kind of voice that knew how to lie without leaving cracks.
My heart did not slow.
“Then why are you here?” I asked, trying to keep my tone steady despite the tightness in my throat.
The other man glanced around the ballroom, his gaze sweeping the glittering crowd before settling back on me.
“We came for something,” he said vaguely. “But there isn’t any space to sit.”
My brows furrowed.
“This table isn’t empty.”
He tilted his head, eyes flicking to the vacant chair Ethan had occupied moments earlier.
“Looks empty.”
“It isn’t,” I insisted. “My husband was sitting here. He just stepped out.”
Something flickered between them a quick look, silent communication passing in a fraction of a second.
“Oh, the scarred one said after a pause. “In that case, when he comes back, we’ll stand.”
I nodded, though unease coiled tighter in my stomach.
Something about them felt wrong.

Too controlled Too onerat Too interested
To distract myself, I lifted my glass and took a sip of my drink. The liquid burned slightly on the way down, stronger tha before, but I ignored it, focusing instead on keeping my breathing even
“So, the other man sad cauúlly, leaning an elow on the table as though we were old acquaintances. “Who’s you
husband?
I hesitated.
Edna’s warning, echoed loudly in my head.
I forced a polite smile. Td prefer to keep his identity private
“Fair enough,” he said easily
But the way his eyes lingered on me made my skin crawl, as if he were cataloging every detail
The scarred man leaned forward slightly, his gaze dropping briefly to my lips before returning to my eyes.
“You’re very beautiful,” he said.
“I’m not interested,” I replied immediately.
He chuckled softly, the sound low and almont amused. “I know. You said you have a man.”
“I do”
“That doesn’t always matter
“It does to me,” I said firmly, “I can’t cheat on him.”
For a moment, genuine surprise crowed his face, as if fidelity were a concept he rarely encountered.
“Wow, he said quietly. “It’s been a long time since I met a woman who didn’t want to cheat”
His companion laughed under his breath, shaking his head.
They kept talking about light, meaningless things about the event, the music, and the crowd, but my mind wasn’t there. Every second stretched painfully as I watched the entrance, waiting for Alpha Ethan to return.
Please come back.
Please.
Finally
He appeared.
Across the room, moving with that unmistakable confidence that parted crowds without effort. Conversations dimmed around him, attention shifting instinctively toward the power he carried without even trying.
The moment the two men saw him, their entire demeanor changed.
They stood up immediately.

He kept looking at me repetently, if waiting for recognition, for warmth, for something I couldn’t give
Finally, he spoke again
“Don’t you remember me from anywhere?”
1 searched his face carefully. Nothing No familiarity. No memory, just polite confusion.
“I’m sorry” I said honestly, “I don’t remember meeting you?
A shadow crowed his expression gone almost instantly,
“Is there a problem?” 1 asked.
“No” he said quickly. “Everything is fine”
He forced a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes,
“Reven, sorry, Mira, We’ll see each other next time. My mate is waiting for me”
Before 1 could respond, he turned and walked away.
1 watched him go, confused and oddly unsettled.
Turning back to Ethan, I sighed softly.
“I don’t understand why everyone thinks I remember them when I don’t.”
He studied me dosely, something unreadable in his gaze
“Are you sure you don’t remember them”
“I don’t,” I said firmly. “If 1 did, I wouldn’t lie”
Suddenly, my head felt. strange.
Heavy,
Warm
As if heat were spreading from the inside out.
I picked up my glass and drained it completely, hoping the liquid would steady me.
“Easy” Ethan said. “Slow down”
I nodded, but my pulse had begun racing for no reason, a restless energy building beneath my skin.

“Tell me about yourself,” he said softly. “It’s inappropriate not to know things about my wife.”
I swallowed, trying to focus,
“My name is Mira.”
“No surname?”
The question froze me.
I opened my mouth… then stopped.
I didn’t have one.
“I… Andrew,” I said quickly. “I’m an orphan. That’s what Edna told me.”
He nodded slowly, watching me with growing concern.

“My favorite color is sea blue,” I continued, my voice turning breathless without my permission. “I like your eyes.”
A faint smile touched his lips.
Something shifted inside me.
A heat I couldn’t explain.
Sudden. Intense. Consuming.
My gaze locked onto his mouth.
My skin felt too tight. Too sensitive. Every brush of fabric against my body felt amplified, electric.
“Mira?” he said quietly. “Are you okay?”
“I don’t feel okay.”
My body moved before my mind could catch up.
I leaned forward, grabbing his jacket, pulling him closer, and kissing him.
His lips were warm, firm, and familiar, and the contact sent a wave of fire crashing through me, stealing whatever breath I had left.
He pulled back immediately, eyes wide, jaw clenched.
“Those men,” he said sharply. “They drugged you.”
My mind swam, thoughts slipping through my fingers like water.
“Oh,” I breathed shakily. “Fuck… I could’ve stayed here with you.”
He stood abruptly and lifted me into his arms as if I weighed nothing.
The ballroom tilted, lights blurring into streaks of gold as my vision struggled to stay focused.
Cool night air slammed into my overheated skin as he carried me outside.

I shivered violently, clinging to his shirt, burying my face against his chest just to steady the spinning world.
“I want you.” I murmured, the words slipping out without restraint.
His jaw tightened. “Stop. You’re not yourself.”
“I am,” I insisted weakly.
“No.” he said firmly. “You’re coming home.”
He placed me gently in the car and slid in beside me, pulling the door shut.
“Take us home,” he told the driver, his voice deadly calm.
My heavy eyelids lifted slightly.
“Which home?” I whispered.
“Mine.”
For some reason, that made me smile, a soft, dreamy curve of my lips as warmth flooded through my fogged mind.
The car began to move, smooth and steady.
Streetlights streaked past the windows like blurred stars, the city melting into ribbons of light and shadow.
My head fell against his shoulder without permission.
His arm came around me automatically, holding me steady, anchoring me in the storm raging inside my body.
Warm.
Safe.
Solid.
