Mated To The Alpha King (Raven and Ethan) novel Chapter 409

Chapter 409

Reven’s POV

It’s been a week now since Sophia and I became friends, and surprisingly.. it has been fun.

Fun in a way I didn’t think I needed.

She took me to places I had never been to before: cafés with soft music and glowing lights, quiet bookstores with the smell of old pages, and even busy streets filled with laughter and strangers who didn’t know me, and somehow that made everything easier.

For a while, I forgot.

Forget the emptiness.

Forgot the gaps in my memory.

Forgot the version of myself I was still trying to understand.

And tonight… tonight felt like another step into that new version of me.

I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection.

The dress clung to my body perfectly-soft, elegant, just bold enough to make me feel different. My hair fell neatly over my shoulders, and my makeup was subtle but enough to highlight features I was still getting used to calling mine.

For a moment, I didn’t recognize the girl staring back.

Not because she looked bad…

But because she looked confident.

And that scared me a little.

The door creaked open behind me, and I turned slightly to see Edna stepping in. She had just gotten back from work, her bag still hanging on her shoulder. The moment her eyes landed on me, she froze.

Her expression shifted from tired… to confused… to something close to shock.

‘Reven…?” she called slowly.

forced a small smile. “Hey.”

She dropped her bag on the bed, still staring at me like I had just done something unbelievable.

Where are you going?” she asked.

‘Oh,” I said casually, turning back to the mirror as I adjusted my earrings. “I forgot to tell you. Sophia invited me to a party

Silence.

The kind of silence that feels heavy.

I turned to look at her again, and her face said everything her words hadn’t yet.

“You actually want to go?” she asked, disbelief clear in her voice.

I frowned slightly. “Yes… why are you asking like that?”

She let out a short breath, shaking her head. “Because I didn’t think the Reven I know would want to go to a party. Lat night. With someone who was once your enemy.”

Her words hit harder than I expected.

I scoffed lightly, folding my arms. “You’re making it sound like I’m doing something terrible.”

“I’m just being realistic,” she replied, her tone firm now. “You don’t even know the kind of people that will be there. You don’t know what could happen.”

“Oh please,” I snapped, irritation rising in my chest. “Why is it that anytime I want to do something, you always have something negative to say?”

Her brows furrowed. “Because sometimes what you want isn’t safe.”

“And how would you know that?” I shot back. “You haven’t even been there!”

“I don’t need to be there to know it’s not a good idea!” she raised her voice slightly. “I’m just looking out for you.”

Her words should have calmed me.

They should have reminded me that she cared.

But instead… they made me feel trapped.

Like I couldn’t breathe.

“Then stop looking out for me!” I blurted.

The room went still.

Even I didn’t expect those words to come out that way.

Edna blinked, clearly taken aback.

“I’m not a kid, Edna,” I continued, my voice trembling slightly, but I pushed through. “Just let me live my life the way I war

to live it. You can’t force someone to be an introvert just because you can’t socialize.”

The moment the words left my mouth… I regretted them.

I saw it immediately.

The change in her expression.

The hurt.

The disappointment.

It was subtle… but it was there.

And it stung.

But I didn’t take it back.

I couldn’t.

Not now.

Not after saying all that.

She looked away for a moment before speaking again, her voice quieter this time.

“You can go to your party, Reven,” she said. “I won’t stop you anymore.”

Something in her tone made my chest tighten.

“Thanks,” I muttered.

I turned back to the inirror, quickly finishing the last touches of my makeup. The silence between us was loud… suffocating but I ignored it.

I wore my shoes, grabbed my phone, and walked out of the room without looking back.

Outside, the night air hit me instantly.

Cold.

Sharp.

Almost like it was trying to wake me up.

I wrapped my arms around myself slightly, pulling out my phone as I dialed Sophia’s number.

She picked up almost immediately.

“Hey girl!” her cheerful voice rang through the phone.

“I’m outside my apartment,” I said. “Where are you?”

‘I’m very close,” she replied. “Just give me two minutes.”

I let out a small sigh of relief. “Okay.”

The call ended, and I stood there… waiting.

Waiting in the quiet.

Waiting with my thoughts.

And somehow… they led me back to Edna.

The argument.

The words I said.

I frowned slightly, shifting my weight.

Maybe I was too harsh.

No… not maybe.

I was.

Edna didn’t deserve that.

She had always been there for me… especially when I needed her the most.

But still…

I exhaled slowly.

Maybe this would help.

Maybe putting some distance between us for a while would make her understand that I wasn’t someone she could contro

Yeah.

That’s what this was.

Not rebellion.

Just… space.

The loud honk of a car snapped me out of my thoughts.

I looked up toward the driveway, and my eyes widened slightly.

A sleek, flashy car pulled up in front of me, its headlights glowing against the dark street.

The window rolled down, revealing Sophia behind the wheel, smiling brightly.

“Hop in!”

I blinked, surprised.

I didn’t expect… this.

“This is your car?” I asked as I walked closer.

She laughed. “Of course. Get in!”

I didn’t question it further.

I opened the door and slid into the passenger seat, the soft leather seats immediately making me feel improper.

We exchanged quick pleasantries before she turned up the music-loud, energetic, and impossible not to move to.

As we drove, we both sang along.

Well… she sang.

I mostly laughed and joined in when I knew the lyrics-which wasn’t much, but it didn’t matter.

For the first time in a long while….

I felt free.

A few minutes later, we arrived.

But the moment I stepped out of the car, I hesitated.

This didn’t look like a normal party.

The lights.

The sound.

The crowd.

“This is a club,” I said, turning to Sophia.

She gave me a sheepish smile. “Yeah…”

“Why didn’t you tell me?” I asked.

She scratched the back of her neck. “If I told you it was a club, you wouldn’t have come.”

I stared at her for a moment.

She wasn’t wrong.

I sighed. “Next time… just be honest with me.”

“I will,” she nodded quickly. “I promise.”

I gave a small nod.

“It’s okay.”

And with that… we went inside.

The music hit me first.

Loud.

Vibrating through my chest.

The lights flashed in different colors, dancing across the room, reflecting off bodies moving in rhythm.

It was overwhelming..

But exciting.

We found a spot, and I sat down while Sophia went to get drinks.

I watched people dance, laugh, and lose themselves in the moment.

And slowly… I started to feel it too.

That pull.

That freedom.

A few minutes later, Sophia returned with two glasses.

She handed me one, and I took a sip.

It tasted… amazing.

Sweet. Smooth. Addictive.

Before I knew it, I had finished the entire glass.

“More?” she asked with a grin.

I nodded.

She handed me another.

And I drank again.

Soon, we were on the dance floor.

Moving.

Laughing.

Letting go.

“This is the best night ever,” I shouted over the music.

And for once…

I meant it.

A guy approached me, asking if he could dance.

I hesitated for a second.

But then I smiled.

What could go wrong?

We both danced as if we knew each other. I allowed him hold my waist as we moved in the rhythms of the music. “I’m Daniel,” he said later, as we sat down.

“Reven,” I replied.

We talked.

We laughed.

We drank.

And somewhere in between

Something started to feel off.

At first, I ignored it.

Maybe it was just the alcohol.

Maybe I had too much.

But the feeling didn’t go away.

It got worse.

My head started to hurt.

My vision blurred slightly.

“You okay?” Daniel asked.

“I’m fine,” I said quickly.

He nodded, handing me another drink.

I should have said no.

I wanted to say no.

But for some reason

I took it.

And drank.

Slowly at first.

Then all at once.

The moment I dropped the glass, a sharp pain shot through my head.

I winced, holding my temples.

My heart started beating faster.

Too fast.

My breathing became uneven.

What was happening?

My vision blurred more.

The lights around me stretched and twisted.

Voices became distant echoes.

“Oh no…” I whispered to myself.

Did I drink too much?

That didn’t make sense.

This felt… different.

Stronger.

Wrong.

I needed my phone.

I needed Edna.

Or Sophia.

My bag.

Where was my bag?’

“With Sophia,” I murmured weakly.

I turned to Daniel, my voice shaky. “I I need to find Sophia…”

He nodded. “I’ll help you.”

I tried to stand.

I pulled out my phone again, glaring at the screen. “This is the right address,” I muttered under my breath. “I’m at the ri place… so how the hell is she not here?”
