Chapter 108 Worries

Sylas thought it over. Leaving now would come off as ungrateful and rude.

With Black Rick away, he had not planned to return to the dorm tonight. He had intended to rest inside the grip-buggy for the night.

“I appreciate the hospitality. Thank you, Mrs. Cole. Thank you, Mabel.”

Tristan’s eyes darkened. Something was off between these two.

Sylas never accepted casual dinner invitations from others. Before he could voice his suspicion, Gillian grabbed him by the back of his fur and tossed him straight into the wash basin. Warm water soaked through his fur in an instant.

“Mrs. Cole! What are you doing? You scared me to death!”

This vicious female was actually trying to drown his fox form!

“Wash up quickly. Come eat once you’re done.”

Gillian set a towel beside the basin and walked toward the dining table,

Left alone in the water, Tristan stared at the murky basin. Any urge to retaliate vanished immediately.

Had he gotten this dirty?

He had never let his skin foam up like this in nineteen years. Grossed out, he scrubbed his small paws frantically.

Five minutes later, at the dinner table, Mabel urged the three young people to eat more warmly. “Feel free to enjoy yourself. These are my best home dishes. After a long, hard day, you need a full meal to regain your strength.”

“Yes, Grandma,” Gillian replied obediently.

“Thank you, Mabel,” Sylas answered gently.

“Thank you, Mabel. I want that pastry.”

It was Tristan’s second day eating with fox paws, and he had already grown used to it. Right after he spoke, a sharp glare landed on his forehead.

Gillian stared pointedly at his paws, her look clear enough to read, “Have you no hands of your own?”

Tristan looked aggrieved. Back at his residence, servants always fed him.

“Mrs. Cole, my fur sheds, and I can’t reach the food properly.”

“I’ll help you then.”

Gillian summoned psionic power and shaped it into a golden slicing blade. She speared a piece of pastry and dropped it neatly into Tristan’s bowl.

The golden blade clinked against the bowl before dissolving away.

Tristan scoffed internally. He would not be intimidated.

Gillian’s warning was clear. Stop ordering Grandma around, glutton, or I’ll deal with you.

Tristan quickly inched closer to Mabel. “Mabel, Mrs. Cole is so mean. I’m scared of her.”

Gillian nearly gagged. This fox was truly shameless.

“Gillian, stop picking on the little fox.”

Mabel smiled helplessly and tapped the back of Gillian’s hand lightly.

She truly worried her granddaughter’s unruly temper would land her in serious trouble someday.

“Grandma, I didn’t mean to scare him. My hands are sore after debriding wounds all afternoon.”

Gillian lifted her wrist. A faint bruise marked her fair skin, obvious and noticeable.

Tristan and Sylas instantly looked away out of politeness.

Tristan pouted inwardly. Gillian’s skin was soft and delicate, typical of a pampered cleric. She had worked nonstop all afternoon without a single complaint. For some reason, the thought left him feeling faintly unamused.

Mabel quickly held Gillian’s wrist, eyes full of distress. “Why are you so careless? You still act like a child.”

Gillian shot a triumphant glance at Tristan, silently provoking him. See who Grandma favors?

He dared compete for her affection? That was pathetic.

The best way to outplay a spoiled brat was to act even more vulnerable.

“Mabel, Mrs. Cole has treated countless severely injured beastmen since joining the medical team.”

Sylas spoke up sincerely for Gillian. “She pushes herself relentlessly to save more lives. Please do not blame her.”

Every member of the 9th Legion witnessed Gillian’s dedication. She was truly outstanding.

The more time Sylas spent around her, the more he admired her as a teammate.

Mabel felt a mix of pride and heartache.

She was not truly blaming Gillian. She simply felt sorry for her granddaughter.
