Tristan let out a cold huff. It was never the charming sunset that caught her eye. She must have gone off to do something shady, which explained her obvious guilty look.

Freya heaved a sigh of relief the moment she spotted Gillian wandering around the residential zone. She had truly feared that something dangerous might have happened to her friend.

After ending the call on her wrist terminal, Freya soothed the worried elder beside her. “Take it easy. Mabel. Gillian strolled over near the patrol checkpoint. I will head over to pick her up right away.”

“Thank you so much, Frey.”

By the time Gillian got back home, the last streak of sunset glow faded from the sky.

Freya dropped her off and drove away in a hurry, leaving Gillian with no one nearby to keep her company.

Two people and a fox sat quietly in the courtyard, seemingly waiting patiently for her return.

Gillian thought to herself that she had done nothing wrong at all, so there was no need for her to feel

uneasy.

“Have you finished sowing the seeds? Why are all of you sitting here waiting to watch the moon rise?”

She glanced toward the front yard and noticed clear traces of watering and soil covering work.

She walked straight over to Mabel without any hesitation, spotted a big ripe watermelon placed beside the elder, and knew right away that her secret outing had been fully exposed.

“Grandma, this watermelon looks so fresh and juicy. Let us cut it open and share it.”

“Tell me where you wandered off to with sweat all over your face. You said you were going to meet Frey. She brought this watermelon over for you. She knew you liked this kind very much and specially got someone to buy it for you.”

“I took a casual walk outside. It was too far to reach her place on foot, so I wandered around nearby to aid digestion.”

Gillian curled her arm around Mabel’s in a soft, coquettish manner. “This fruit looks incredibly sweet. Let us cut it soon.”

“Sylas grew so anxious when he knew you did not go out with Frey that he almost went out to search for you. Do not act like this again in the future.”

Mabel spoke in a helpless tone.

“I know, Grandma. Next time, I will ask Freya to come pick me up right here. This watermelon looks perfect, and I feel so hot after walking around.”

“Fine, you little food lover.” Mabel tapped Gillian’s nose lightly, then stood up to fetch a fruit knife.

Mabel knew Gillian was a girl with her own definite ideas. As long as she returned safe and sound, she would never force her to talk about where she had been if she chose to keep it private.

The instant Mabel stepped into the house, Sylas stood up to take his leave.

“I feel relieved now that you are back, Mrs. Cole. I should take my departure.”

He had already made up his mind to set off to look for her if Freya failed to get in touch.

“I will not see you off then.”

Gillian sat down on a chair and rested both hands on the plump watermelon. Her face was flushed slightly from the heat.

Her eyes carried a gentle aura that made others feel warm and close easily.

Sylas felt his mood brighten. He held back all the words he intended to remind her of, for nothing mattered more than her safe return.

Sylas started up his grip-buggy and drove out of the courtyard.

Tristan narrowed his eyes and stared at Gillian, who was leaning against the big watermelon.

“Mrs. Cole, why did you not ask Sylas to stay and have watermelon with us?”

“This watermelon is a gift sent by Freya for me. Why should I share it with him?” Gillian looked quite confused.

“Then why did you invite him to stay for dinner earlier?”

“I only did that because you, this big eater, ate up all his evening meals.”

Tristan was utterly stunned. He never expected that the whole dinner invitation was all because of his own gluttony.

Seeing him tilting his head in a dumbfounded daze, Gillian showed obvious disdain. She hugged the watermelon and walked indoors to find Mabel.

She made up her mind to send this gluttonous fox back to his elder brother the very next day, once Lucian came home.

Tristan swallowed hard and stared at Gillian’s retreating figure. A strange thought popped into his mind.

Could it be that Gillian had already fallen for him without even realizing it herself?

Did she keep Sylas for dinner simply because of him?

A massive tide of tainted energy swept across the Outer Planet a hundred years ago, causing a sharp drop in the overall population.

Under the rules of the Void Star Alliance, any female could legally apply to take two beast partners at the

same time.

Yet most people on the Outer Planet stuck firmly to monogamy, so very few females ever submited such applications.

Gillian even had such feelings toward him in his current fox form.

He dared not imagine how she would use all kinds of means to win him over once he regained his original handsome appearance.
