“Merrick, how much blackstone do you think we have here?”

“I estimate around forty tons. This stock can supply the base for several years straight. You said the taint core will erupt in a month. We need to finish all preparations in advance to fend off raging taint waves These blackstones come at the perfect time.”

Merrick stared at the ores with a racing heart. Most blackstone here lay close to the ground/They still needed professionals to check reserves deeper underground.

“The mechanical arms are not long enough. I will send people over to continue work tomorrow.”

Both of them stayed up digging all night yet remained highly excited. Anyone who saw massive piles of precious blackstone laid out casually would find it hard to calm down.

Gillian finished sorting out ores and stood up. She glanced over the whole area around Wilder Peak.

Twelve connected large dark mountains stood nearby. She wondered if more hidden resources waited to ⚫ be found.

“What are you looking at, Gillian?”

Gillian drew back her gaze. She and Merrick now shared common interests and assets, so she saw no need to hide her thoughts.

“If this mountain holds blackstone veins, I plan to explore other peaks when we have time. More blackstone means huge gains for us.”

Merrick’s eyes lit up with great enthusiasm. “I remember you bought all twelve surrounding mountains, right?”

“Yes, I took ownership of the whole range in one go.”

“If blackstone exists beneath all twelve peaks, we will have nothing to fear even when the taint core erupts.”

His words held solid truth.

The fall of the 9th Legion in her previous life largely stemmed from the hidden dangers of healing metal. Nearly all beastman members suffered severe injuries.

She still recalled clearly how Merrick came to her three days earlier, covered in wounds, begging her to fix his broken bio-armor.

Without her help back then, he would have relied on risky healing metal. Once he got infected by taint energy, the whole 9th Legion would face total collapse.

Now, all tragic outcomes could be avoided. She firmly believed Wasteland City would survive the coming disaster.

Even fully loaded, Merrick’s Little Griffin could only carry half of the blackstone stored in the hollow.

He contacted Number Two right away to dispatch a large transport craft to move all remaining ores.

Daylight gradually spread across the land. Adrian arrived at Wilder Peak aboard Dominic Prescott’s patrol ship.

They spotted Merrick sitting alone on a rock.

His look was rather smug and hard to describe.

Soft morning sunlight fell over his head, waking all living things around.

Adrian and Dominic were utterly stunned by the sheer amount of blackstone before them.

Each of them picked up one chunk to run scans.

They never thought of anything other than caring about their partner all the time; their commander was also skilled at locating mineral resources.

They looked around, yet saw no sign of Gillian.

“Commander, where is Mrs. Cole?”

Adrian felt a little awkward. Gillian sent them messages early the previous morning in a rather upset tone.

They all thought the commander failed to take good care of her and made her angry.

Gillian even had the energy to scold them.

The three of them got fined twenty thousand coins each. Instead of handing the money to Gillian, they spent sixty thousand coins in total to buy thirty batches of energy tonics.

Clara said the goods would arrive very soon.

“Gillian is resting inside the Little Griffin. She is worn out, so keep your voices low.”

Merrick glanced toward the craft with gentle affection in his eyes.

Adrian was already used to this side of him. Dominic looked shocked and could hardly believe his eyes.

“Commander, did you find all these blackstones alone?” he said, a little hesitant.

“No, Gillian discovered this vein.”

Merrick spoke with obvious pride. He then teased the two single males playfully. “You are still single, right?”

Both Adrian and Dominic rolled their eyes.

“Dominic, move all blackstone to the warehouse and record the exact weight under Gillian’s name. Any official usage must be recorded as expenditure from her personal account.”
