Chapter 127 Foreseeing the Future

Dominic let out a long sigh of relief. No one dared to take such grave matters lightly.

His original form was a black turtle, and he boasted the sturdiest defense among all beastmen in the Sovereign Guard. He had long been in charge of monitoring all taint sources.

If dormant taint cores erupted suddenly without his notice, he could never make up for such a fatal mistake to Black Rick.

He stepped forward and shared all recorded data of taint sources to Merrick’s wrist terminal.

“Black Rick, could this piece of information be wrong?”

Merrick stared at the distribution map of inactive taint cores, his expression growing increasingly solemn.

He trusted every single word Gillian had told him the instant he glanced over the chart.

“The person who told me this has never set foot in those zones at all.”

“Is this source trustworthy?”

Adrian guessed the messenger must be someone they all knew well.

“Absolutely reliable.”

Unease crept over both Dominic and Adrian. Merrick’s firm tone made them certain the crisis was very likely real.

They once assumed Black Rick gathered the intel. Yet from his words, the informant had never visited tainted areas in person. They could not help wondering how this person learned all these secrets. Could this individual truly see what lay ahead?

Merrick had never counted the exact number of dormant taint cores across the region.

He matched the marked locations from Gillian with the monitoring spots submitted by Dominic.

All his guesses were fully confirmed.

The zones suffering the worst taint contamination perfectly aligned with the outbreak sites Gillian had mentioned. No outsiders had ever known the exact positions of these powerful taint cores.

Merrick closed his wrist terminal. He glanced at Gillian, who was still sound asleep inside the Little Griffin. He wondered why fate let her witness such terrible scenes in dreams. Still, he swore he would stop every disaster she had foreseen.

Once the taint energy built up to a certain level, magnetic fields would fall into chaos. All aircraft would lose signal connection and fail to take off.

A large-scale eruption would spread swiftly across the entire Wasteland City. The current defensive strength of their base stood no chance of holding out against such an impact.

Chapter 127 Foreseeing the Future

Merrick immediately classified this incident as a level 1 dangerous mission for the legion.

Its official code name was Guardianship.

All core officers of the 9th Legion were greatly shaken.

Level 1 missions represented extreme peril that required the full strength of the entire legion

Throughout the history of Wasteland City, there had been fewer than ten such missions. Every single one ended with Black Rick stepping forward to lay down his life and resolve the crisis.

Every soldier stood straight and saluted solemnly after receiving the notice.

“Dominic, Adrian, first transport all these blackstones to the legion warehouse. Then dispatch troops to secure the twelve mountain ranges. I will send Gillian back first and join you later. We need to carry out thorough field surveys on those taint cores.”

He had to check the scene in person to feel reassured.

“Got it, Black Rick.”

Adrian and Dominic operated mechanical arms to scan and register all blackstone into the legion system.

“Black Rick, the total weight reaches thirty-two point eight tons.”

“Send a scouting team to check if there are more ore reserves underground.”

“Understood.”

Bright hope flashed in their eyes. These thirty-two point eight tons of blackstone alone could satisfy all usage demands of Wasteland City for two full years.

They could hardly imagine what massive gains awaited them if even more ores lay hidden beneath the ground.

After watching Adrian and the others leave, Merrick boarded the Little Griffin. He gazed at Gillian sleeping peacefully and chose not to wake her, for she had worn herself out the whole night before.

Gillian woke up abruptly later and found the craft had already landed in the residential zone.

“How long have I been asleep?”

“Not too long. It is past nine o’clock now.”

Merrick took out high-grade nutritional supplements, twisted off the seal, and placed them in her palm. “Have this to fill your stomach for now. We will enjoy a proper hearty meal at noon.”

“It is already nine? Time passed way too fast.”

Gillian grew flustered. She quickly took a sip of the supplement. It tasted soft and smooth like milk jelly, far more palatable than she had expected.
