Chapter 141 Tense Atmosphere
Chapter 141 Tense Atmosphere
Elara set down her spoon gently, her expression cold and detached. “Commander Cole. This simple hone meal may not suit your taste.”
The atmosphere between Elara and Merrick dropped to freezing point in an instant.
Gillian held her bowl and sipped her soup slowly. She kept quiet, letting the two clash first. She would so everything out later.
“You flatter me, Elara. Home-cooked meals made by Mabel are the best I have ever tasted. I could eat themy every single day and never grow tired of them.”
Merrick spoke in an exaggerated tone, completely unashamed.
Disgust flashed across Elara’s eyes. Shameless.
Gillian watched silently, hoping the two would clash properly. Both of them needed to be disciplined.
“Judging by your expression, Elara, do you dislike Mabel’s cooking?” Merrick feigned surprise.
Even Mabel grew nervous, worried her food failed to satisfy Elara’s taste.
Elara had seen through his petty trick instantly.
She picked up her soup bowl and took a slow sip. “Grandma’s cooking is exquisite. I love it dearly.”
“I must have misread you then. It seems you share the same fondness for Mabel’s food as I do. We truly are family.”
Merrick helped Mabel sit back. “Mabel, I rushed over the moment I landed. I heard everyone was here. and I was starving on the way.”
“Silly boy, you never need formal manners with me. Let me serve you more food.”
Mabel stood up in a hurry, only to be gently stopped by Merrick.
“I can do it myself. This is my home. I will never let myself go hungry here.”
Merrick sat straighter as he spoke.
Gillian almost laughed. This was indeed his family quarters, applied under his name.
Round one between Elara and Merrick ended in a draw.
She savored the rich soup. Grandma had put great care into cooking the meal.
“Merrick is right. No need for extra trouble, dear.”
Mabel replied warmly, her gaze shifting between the three of them.

Chapter 141 Tense Atmosphere
She could clearly tell Elara disliked Merrick for some unknown reason.
Family should always stand united. She hurried to ease the awkward tension.
Merrick had an outstanding appearance. His sharp eyes could intimidate anyone, yet when soffened. Its gentle look could easily cheer Mabel up.
Gillian sensed Merrick and Elara were cut from the same mold.
They both carried the stern temperament carved by long-term rigorous training, rooted deep in their bones.
They must have been extraordinary talents back on Capital Planet.
Merrick caught Gillian’s gaze. A bright smile tugged at his lips, lighting up his handsome features instanty
Gillian looked away quickly, trying to stay inconspicuous.
She knew better than to stir up trouble. Keeping her distance was the safest choice; Elara would never let Merrick off easy.
“Gillian, may I sit beside you?”
The moment the words left his mouth, a strong beast aura wrapped around Gillian.
Warm breath brushed her ear, sending a faint tingle through her body.
He rested both arms casually over the back of her chair, openly shielding her within his reach.
“The table is wide enough. There are plenty of empty seats.”
Gillian’s tone carried a clear warning. She would not hesitate to call him out in front of Grandma if he kept pushing.
“Thank you, Gillian. I will sit right here then.”
Merrick ignored her implied refusal and sat down firmly.
“Suit yourself.”
Gillian focused on her food, pretending not to care at all.
This little heartless girl would not even glance at him.
He had rushed home the second he finished his mission, yet she showed no concern for him. Would she have left with Elara without a second thought if he had not come back?
“Gillian, are you upset because I’m late?”
Gillian kept cutting her food with her fork. She was exhausted and starving after a long day, with no patience left for this liar.

“Not at all. The braised beast trotters are still warm. You arrived in time
I hope your explanation will also arrive in time.
Noticing Gillian fancied the dish, Merrick helped her to some more to soothe her mood.
“Mabel, this braised trotters smells amazing.”
He took a bite and praised the taste repeatedly.
“I have to learn how to make this. I will cook it for you personally from now on.”
He completely ignored the icy glare Elara shot at him, sharper than starship artillery fire.
“It’s quite simple. I can teach you someday. Enjoy your meal.”
“Thank you, Mabel. You too.”
Merrick barely ate anything, instead piling dish after dish onto Gillian’s plate.
Seeing the overflowing food, Gillian frowned. She was already full. “I can’t finish all this. It will go to waste.
“It’s fine. I don’t mind your leftovers.”
Seeing she truly could not eat another bite, Merrick swapped his empty plate with hers without hesitation.
