Chapter 140 Hidden Worries
This massive sum of money was clearly Elara’s gift for Elias and Asher.
The two kids exchanged a quick, curious glance.
Have you told Grandma about the child?
No. I have no idea how to bring it up.

Gillian fell silent. She had yet to mention her pregnancy to Mabel, seeing as it was still early. She could only lower her head and eat quietly.
She decided to let go of the chief medical officer dispute for now.
Elara frowned slightly. Gillian was extraordinarily talented and sharp-witted in most situations, yet she had one obvious flaw.
She always carried every burden alone, stubborn, and never fully trusted anyone around her.
Elara suspected Merrick did not know the child either.
“Gillian, why do you keep your head down, only focusing on your food?”
Mabel filled a bowl with soup for Gillian before sitting down across from the two sisters.
She could never get enough of looking at Elara. The young female was super beautiful.
Mabel had been sitting in the small courtyard waiting long before dusk fell.
She had waited anxiously after receiving the updated kinship test report from Gillian, and finally caught sight of Gillian walking over with an elegant, poised young female by her side.
Elara noticed Mabel’s eyes glistening with silent tears. She immediately stood up, walked over, and bowed before the elderly woman respectfully.
Mabel gripped her hands and pulled her up gently. “Good girl, where have you been all these years? Why did you only come back to us now?”
Mabel had stared at the kinship test for a long time. It was conducted eleven years ago, when Gillian was only nine years old.
She could not understand why Elara had never reached out after finding their family.
Elara pulled out a tissue, gently wiped the tears from Mabel’s cheeks, and settled her back into her seat. She then slowly told her the whole story of her past.
“Grandma. I was taken to Capital Planet at a young age. I had to pay a heavy price to survive there. I was forced to help powerful figures seize rare resources, including ice golden spirit stones.”
Gillian was utterly stunned. She never imagined Elara had spent her life undertaking such dangerous

work.
“Why did you come back to the Outer Planet and find us? Is that work still dangerous? Will you have to go back?”
Elara had been taken away when she was barely a child. Seizing rare resources was an extremely perilous job, and she must have endured countless hardships.
Mabel was overwhelmed with worry, firing one anxious question after another, stirring a surge of sadnes in Elara’s heart.
“I came back to assist Merrick on behalf of others, after he got into trouble on Capital Planet. I only learned about our family by pure accident.”
Elara smiled at Mabel. “I dared not reveal our family bond back then. I have countless powerful enemies on Capital Planet, and I could not let you and Gillian get dragged into danger.”
Gillian spotted countless loopholes in her words. Elara had taken the kinship test with her when she was fifteen, while Gillian was only nine. She never explained how she had found their family back then.
Still, Gillian held back her doubts, unwilling to upset Grandma. A fifteen-year-old female could never possess overwhelming power or freedom back then.
“Will you go back there again?”
Mabel stared at Elara, her eyes full of reluctance.
“I signed a seven-year agreement to assist Merrick in exchange for my freedom. I had planned to bring you and Gillian to Capital Planet once my term ended. But an unexpected incident pulled me back to Capital Planet three months ago.”
Elara was filled with deep regret over that choice.
If she had stayed, her sister would never have suffered so much, nor formed a bond with Merrick.
She had spent the entire afternoon investigating every single thing that had happened to Gillian during her three-month absence.
She thought the fall of the Grayson family was well-deserved, Merrick had acted decisively.
If he had hesitated, she would have destroyed the family herself with her own hands.
“Elara, I’m truly doing well now. I have Grandma, and I have you back by my side. I can also help the 9th Legion’s beastman soldiers. They have endured far too much suffering.”
Elara knew full well how harsh the beastman soldiers’ lives were in this Wasteland City.
Two generations of the Sterling family had already sacrificed everything for this desolate land. Would she and her sister be doomed to sink into this endless suffering as well?
She was determined to take Gillian away and give her a better life.
