“Merrick, I am not that popular. You only think I am perfect because you love me. I am never that outstanding in others’ eyes.”

Gillian wanted to laugh. Elara held peerless beauty, and Freya looked charming. Single males would only be drawn to them.

No one would fall for a pregnant female like her.

Merrick was about to speak. Gillian leaned close and kissed his ear lightly.

“You are strong. Carry those two blackstones and send them to Elara.

“She has not lived with me for years. She tries her best to treat me well. She gives me wealth and males, all fine things she can find. Yet she fails to see that I have grown up. I know what I want and which path to take. I will tell her clearly what I truly need, alright?”

Merrick smiled widely. “Alright.”

He looked unusually silly at this moment.

Gillian smiled softly and walked out of the cellar first. She knew they would stay trapped here all night if she stayed longer.

She trotted out, touched her hot cheeks to calm down, and then headed for the living room.

No one stayed in the living room any longer. Only Mabel sat there in low spirits, staring at the plate of watermelon.

“Grandma, where is Elara? Did she go upstairs?”

“She went back to the medical team. She needs to watch over those ten clerics. She will not stay home for this whole month.”

Mabel felt upset about Elara’s decision.

Gillian walked over and handed the photo given by Elara to Mabel.

“Did Elara give you this photo?”

Mabel stroked the photo gently with her fingers, full of nostalgia.

“Grandma, Elara also needs time. She invited us to Gourmaw Road tomorrow. You can meet her again soon.”

“Gillian, will you blame me? I hid your parents’ matters from you. I feared you would be as stubborn as your father. I did not want you to head to Wasteland City again to search for your grandfather’s remains. I cannot afford to lose you.”

Gillian held her grandma’s hand tightly and rested her head on her shoulder with a calm look.

“I do not blame you, Grandma. You keep those secrets because I am not ready to know them. I will learn everything when the time comes.”

Mabel saw how sensible Gillian was. She knew Gillian had fully grown up and could stand on her own

“Wait for me a moment, Gillian. I need to fetch something.”

She gave back the photo and hurried to her room.

“Walk slowly, Grandma.”

“It is fine.”

Gillian smiled, seeing her mood lighten. She held the photo and looked at her mother’s face on it.

Elara shared half of her mother’s looks while Gillian took more after her father.

“Sylas texted me. Elara left for the legion in his car. Shall I send those two blackstones to the cleric’s dormitory tomorrow morning?”

Merrick walked over empty-handed and sat beside Gillian.

“Those two blackstones are too noticeable. Let it be.”

Gillian shook her head.

“Okay.”

Merrick naturally wrapped his arm around Gillian’s waist.

Gillian pushed his hand away at once. “Stop it. Grandma will be out any minute.”

Merrick sat straight right away. He knew Mabel was his get-out-of-trouble token, and he must leave a good impression.

“I was about to call you two. I feel safe leaving these things to you two.”

Mabel carried a metal box over to Gillian.

“Grandma, what precious things are inside?”

Gillian recognized it. It was the only item Grandma brought away from their home in Goldspine City.
