Chapter 149 Childhood Betrothal
“This one will do.”
Gillian picked for a while. Her eyes finally settled on a very large blackstone.
She tried to hold it. She could barely wrap both hands around it.
She was quite satisfied with this blackstone.
“Gillian, do you think Elara dislikes me?”
Merrick hugged her from behind.
“Not at all. Are you not her comrade? I heard you two share a life-and-death bond.”
“That bond means nothing. She turned hostile the moment I fell for her younger sister.”
His tall frame pulled Gillian tight in his arms. His tone carried obvious grievance.
“This blackstone is too big. I don’t want to give it to her. She dislikes me.”

Gillian smiled. She thought Merrick was being too childish. She even thought this piece was not big enough.
“Take this one and that one too. Send both to Elara’s room.”
She picked another blackstone and decided to give both to Elara.
“Gillian, you are not listening. Elara acts strangely today. No one knows her better than me. She never does anything without reason.”
“You are overthinking. What could she possibly do?”
Gillian could not figure out what worried Merrick so much.
“You carry that one, and I will take this one. Then we go find Elara.”
“Do you truly not know, or are you pretending?”
Sorrow welled up in Merrick’s heart. He bowed his head and kissed his partner.
Gillian’s mouth was sealed at once.
She was pushed into the dim corner.
Merrick knelt on one knee. He held Gillian and let her sit on his lap. His other arm wrapped around her waist and back.
“Merrick, have you lost your mind?”

He kept kissing her without pause.
The kiss held no desire, only unrest and unwillingness.
She stopped resisting and yielded to the male before her.
They pulled apart to catch their breath.
Gillian pinched Merrick hard. Tears glistened in her eyes, from anger or fluster alike.
“How could you do such a thing here?”
Merrick looked at her soft look and felt more upset.
He was equally trapped by surging emotions.
“Gillian, if Elara tells you to leave me, will you go with her?”
“Why would Elara ask me to leave you?”

Gillian brushed her fingers over the firm jawline of this male. She traced down his chin all the way to his
ears.
Dim lamplight fell on his cold, featured face.
His dull eyes brightened the instant she touched him. Gillian never expected she could stir such deep feelings in a male and make him worry endlessly for her.
“Are you hiding something else from me? Did you leave things unsaid last time?”
She thought the male she chose was extremely attractive just by his looks.
Merrick covered her hand and stroked it gently.
Gillian was sharp-witted. He dared not hide anything and wanted to tell her everything.
“I have told you all the truth, Gillian.”
Merrick leaned close, aiming at her neck. His hand rested lightly on her belly while the other lifted her hips to make her sit more comfortably.
“Then what are you afraid of?”
Gillian pinched his soft earlobe lightly. Merrick’s gaze turned deep, and his voice sank low.
“Elara keeps a token. It stands for a childhood betrothal set years ago between the head of the Lawson family and your father.”
His tone was full of jealousy. Gillian could not hold back her laughter.
Merrick bit her lips lightly out of pique until she begged for mercy.
