Chapter 161 Show of Force
Levi’s voice came out vicious, like the 9th Legion was beneath his notice.
These weren’t small-time thugs. What did they want?

Mabel’s chest tightened. She tugged Gillian’s sleeve. “Gillian, we need to go. This one means trouble. We need Merrick here.”
Gillian nodded at Mabel. She had already pinged Merrick and the Gourmaw Road guard unit, and she squeezed Mabel’s hand to tell her not to worry.
“You okay?”
Elara couldn’t believe anyone had the nerve to start something inside Winterhush. Did these people not know the 9th Legion ran this street?
“I’m okay, Captain Sterling. Don’t fight on my account. Winterhush security will protect us. Take Gillian and your grandmother and get to the back.”
Devon’s face had gone white as a sheet. The wound had been punched clean through the bone in his leg. and if not for Elara and Gillian, he’d already be dead.
He absolutely couldn’t let Elara and the others take any heat from these mercenaries.
“I’ve got this. You two get him to a medic.”
Elara glanced at Linnea and Yvette, but both shook their heads. They had been picked for this client, and walking away wasn’t an option.
“You’re my guides tonight, so listen up. Take Gillian and my grandmother with you when you go.”
Linnea and Yvette gritted their teeth, then took Devon’s weight between them. “Miss, ma’am, come with
us.”
They had only taken a few steps when the mercenaries opened fire at their feet. If Gillian hadn’t yanked them back in time, Linnea and Yvette would have lost their hands.
“Did I say you could leave?”
Levi shifted his weight, and a wave of beast aura rolled off him.
Gillian felt the killing intent slam into her like a physical wall. This was no ordinary beastman, easily level
The polished floor of Winterhush split under the pressure of that aura. The cracks raced outward in a spider-web pattern, all the way to Gillian’s feet.
Levi fought dirty, with no concern for rules of engagement.
Just as the shockwave was about to slam into Gillian and the others, Elara pressed her palms together. A

waist-high shield of solid ice took shape in an instant and locked around the entire reception area.
The flying debris stopped dead against the ice shield, unable to push an inch further.
“A female with Ice Ability?”
Levi’s eyes raked Elara from head to toe, and something thoughtful crept into his expression/
Level 7 beastmen back in Wasteland City ranked lieutenant colonel or higher. If she really pushed back t full force, he might actually come out the loser.
Gillian had thought Elara was a cleric above level 6. Was her real strength even higher than that?
Looking at the sheer thickness of that ice shield, Gillian had to wonder if Elara was at level 7 or even level 8.
“Gillian, get Grandma back.”
“Elara, be careful.”
Gillian gripped Mabel’s hand. There was a back exit at Winterhush, and she needed to get Mabel somewhere safe before circling back to help Elara.
Gillian flung her hands wide. Golden ribbons streamed from her palms and snapped around every mercenary blocking her path, trussing them up like turkeys.
By the time anyone could react, Gillian had already gotten Mabel to the staircase between the second floor and the basement.
Levi’s mouth curled into a cold smile. “Stop them.”
A massive black serpent slithered to the entrance, sank its fangs into Devon’s leg, and started dragging him back.
Devon let out a strangled grunt. He shoved Linnea and Yvette away from him. “Go!”
“No need to rush off! If Winterhush’s owner won’t show her face, we’ll just play with her people instead!”
The serpent’s black tail whipped around and smashed through the golden ribbons in seconds.
The freed mercenaries charged forward with murderous eyes. They had let their guard down for a single second, and a female had gotten the drop on them.
But that didn’t change what they had come to do.
The mercenaries closing in raised their rifles and leveled them at Mabel’s head.
Ribbons of gold spiraled around Gillian and Mabel like a delicate cage. On her wrist terminal, Merrick’s location ping showed him less than a kilometer out.
“Since you came to play, you might as well stay. The boss is treating you tonight.”
