Freya was rescued by 8th Legion soldiers. The dormant terminal cost her every memory she had.
The memories the Blue Phoenix had patched into Elara had all originally belonged to Freya.
The White Griffin had absorbed 40 percent of the Blue Phoenix fragments, and the Cryolotus had taken 17
percent.
Her current strength couldn’t beat either of those two systems head on. As long as they tore each other apart, she could swoop in and clean up the leftovers.
After all, the White Griffin and the Cryolotus each carried Blue Phoenix data inside them, which made breaking in much easier.
The remaining 45 percent of fragments back on Capital Planet had to have sensed Blue’s existence by now.
Their return trip would be a one-way ticket to the grave.
Freya tucked Blue out of sight, opened the buggy door, and ran toward base housing.
“Gillian. Gillian.”
Sylas and the others spotted her too. “Captain Reed, why aren’t you out of here yet?”
“I was worried about Gillian. And Grandma.”
Freya’s eyes were red-rimmed and etched deep with worry.
“They’re all right. Gillian’s with the boss. Mabel’s safe over that way.”
Freya nodded. “Can we take them?”
“Nine times out of ten.”
Sylas hadn’t been in on the boss’ plan before dinner that night. When he and Dominic stepped outside to take a leak, the silence outside base housing had hit him as wrong, almost obscene.
The moment Merrick stepped into the courtyard carrying Tristan, the plan clicked into place for both of
them.
Tristan’s glamour craft had stunned the four men inside the car for just a heartbeat, and that was already long enough to kill them several times over.
The whole thing went down in a flash.
“Nothing can happen to Gillian.” The worry in Freya’s eyes was no act.
“Captain Reed. You and Mrs. Cole are awfully close.”
Sylas meant the compliment sincerely. A girl like Gillian, who could help but love her?

Chapter 195 Blue Phoenix Awakens
The two top-tier systems had blanketed nearly the entire sky between them. A massive ice lotus and a winged White Griffin clashed over and over.
Wrecked airships from both sides crashed into the protective dome, ripping a massive hole through it.
Gillian jumped down from Merrick’s back. The sight of Elara melting away in Maddox’s arms hit her like a punch. She sprinted forward. “Elara. Hold on for me. Hold on.”
“Gillian, don’t come over here.”
Gillian didn’t break stride. Merrick blew past her, slammed into Maddox, and sent him flying.
A black griffin and a jade griffin tangled together in the air.
Elara was thrown into the air. Gillian’s golden silk shot up, wrapped around her, and dragged her safely into her embrace.
“Elara, don’t be scared. I can fix this.”
The instant Gillian’s hand touched Elara’s skin, it began to rot, and a sharp burn lanced through her palm.
Elara watched Gillian throw herself in without a thought, tears welling in her eyes. “Gillian’s all grown up. Big enough to save me now.”
“You and Merrick went way too far. How could you set up something like this? You’re gambling your life. What in the world is worth that?”
Wherever Gillian’s palm pressed against Elara’s body, the purge dissolved away as if it had never been there.
Gillian’s healing power chased right behind, mending each patch of skin whole again.
“You. You’re worth it.”
One sentence, and a sharp pain stabbed through Gillian’s chest. Anger ripped right out of her. “What part of me is worth it? We’ve only known each other a few days!”
“Gillian, it’s been eleven years. I’ve only had a few days as your sister, but you’ve been mine for eleven.
1 Gillian’s nose stung, and her vision blurred over with tears.
“You idiot. Idiot!”
“Maddox is dangerous, Gillian. He took my Cryolotus, and the only way to get it back was this. I told him Merrick had core-bonded with you to unlock the White Griffin’s second access tier. Just like I thought, he bonded with me to crack the Cryolotus the same way.”
Lucky for them, Elias and Asher came through, sucking the taint clean out of Elara’s body. Gillian clutched a chunk of blackstone and threw everything she had into healing Elara. If Elara hadn’t been a level 7 cleric herself, she’d never have lasted long enough for Gillian to reach her.
