Chapter 196 Two Sisters

Chapter 196 Two Sisters

Gillian barely made it two steps before a wall of blue light cut them off.

That blue looked exactly like the Blue Phoenix System.

“Freya?”

Gillian’s head whipped around in disbelief. Was Freya, the one Gillian had come to love like family, an enemy too?

“Run? No. You’re not running.”

Freya rose to her feet, watching the two top-tier systems collide. White light blasted apart above all thre of them.

Wrapped in the blue glow, none of them took so much as a scratch.

A blue phoenix shot out of Freya’s body and dove for the two battered systems above.

Anyone who had eaten Freya was going to spit her right back up.

Elara grabbed Gillian’s hand and dropped down beside her.

The moment Elara laid eyes on the Blue Phoenix, she was certain. Those weren’t hallucinations. Even the name Elara Sterling didn’t belong to her.

“Freya Reed. Who are you, really?”

Gillian’s golden silk swept Elara behind her, putting real distance between them and Freya.

Disappointment carved its way across Gillian’s face. “How could you do this to me? Do you even deserve to wear 9th Legion colors?”

Elara grabbed Gillian’s arm, her face firm. “Gillian, don’t speak to her like that. She’s… she’s your sister.” The memories Elara had locked away in the back of her mind clicked into place the moment she saw Blue. It hadn’t been a childhood trauma fantasy. She really had seen that blue phoenix when she was small.

Which meant she wasn’t really Elara at all. The real Elara had grown up to be Freya. Why she carried any of Freya’s memories was still a mystery.

Gillian was completely lost. “She’s a sister? Whose sister? She’s the Blue Phoenix!”

The truth slammed into Gillian and cracked her wide open.

Elara could feel the grief radiating off Gillian.

“How could Freya possibly be a 9th Legion traitor?”

The words barely cleared Gillian’s lips before her golden silk snapped tight around Freya’s waist. She `shouted like she was giving an order. “Freya, back off. Now. Back off and I won’t kill you.”

“Gillian!”

A blade of ice sliced clean through the golden silk. Freya, who had been barely able to breathe, dropped to the ground.

“Gillian, you can’t kill her. You’ll regret it.”

Elara held Gillian back. “She might be your real sister by blood. She’s the one. Not me.”

At those words, Freya picked her gold blade off the ground, pushed herself back up, and managed a bitter

smile.

“You’re a sister to her too. You’re willing to die for her. The name’s yours. Take it.”

Freya kept her back turned to Gillian the entire time and never looked back once.

She didn’t blame Gillian either. She just kept directing the Blue Phoenix to seize the data.

Gillian hadn’t expected Elara to be the one to slice through her golden silk. Freya’s words sent panic ripping through her chest.

If Freya was the one related to her by blood, then what was Elara? What about the DNA test that had matched Elara to her and Grandma?

One question after another exploded inside Gillian’s head until she could barely breathe.

“Elara, is it true?”

“It’s my fault, Gillian. I didn’t get a chance to tell you.”

A flicker of panic crossed Elara’s face, but she knew she couldn’t keep hiding this from Gillian. Not with Gillian still pregnant.

Elara stepped between Gillian and Freya, cupped Gillian’s face, wiped the tears off her cheeks, and told her the truth one word at a time.

“You can’t hurt her. I have her in my memories. She’s probably your real sister by blood. I’m not.”

If Freya was the one related to her by blood, then who was Elara?

“Then what about you? Who are you?”

Gillian’s eyes lifted on instinct to Elara’s tear-streaked face. Her hand tightened around Elara’s.

“Just who are the two of you?”

The words wrenched something raw open inside Elara’s chest. She wanted to be the real Elara too.

How could she suddenly not be Elara? She had been Elara for twenty years.

A phoenix cry rang out across the sky and pulled every eye upward.

Freya’s Blue Phoenix shot in among them. Instead of attacking, the Cryolotus bloomed open beside her like an old friend.
