Chapter 198 Husband Left Behind
Chapter 198 Husband Left Behind
Merrick had the distinct feeling Gillian had just sold him out.
Was he less important to her than this new sister?
He scanned the area, and his stomach dropped. Gillian was nowhere in sight.
He bolted toward the outside.
“Gillian, where are you?”

“Merrick, we’re on our way to the research base. Freya says the Blue Phoenix fragments on Capital Planet are headed for the Outer Planet. She says wherever it all started is where it should end. We’re going there.”
“Gillian. The three of you are planning to take on the Capital Planet Phoenixkin? Just the three of you?”
Black spots danced in front of Merrick’s eyes. Gillian was going to give him a heart attack.
Three people couldn’t possibly pull this off.
She was still carrying twins. No way. Absolutely not.
“Of course not.”
How could they possibly take a fight like that with so few people? Especially with Grandma along.
“We’ve got Sylas, Tristan, and Dominic with us too. When we need you, I’ll send the address.”
Wiping out the Phoenix kin took timing, terrain, and the right people. The 9th Legion was the right people.
Merrick’s stride faltered. His expression turned thunderous.
What? What was his sweet little wife actually saying?
She had taken along a useless snake, a fox that couldn’t keep his coat on, and a turtle who couldn’t roll over without help, all of them off to go pick a fight.
And she wasn’t bringing her own brilliant, magnificent husband along?
“Gillian Sterling. You are turning that ship around right now, this second, immediately, and picking me up. Otherwise I launch a missile, blow your ship out of the sky, then drag you home, lock you in the basement and… well. As for those two sisters of yours? Heh. They’ll never see a hot meal again.”
Merrick eased off the urgency.
Want to play dirty with him? Cute.
Gillian didn’t reply for several seconds. Merrick wasn’t worried. He had put the words out there. He had every confidence in them.

Gillian didn’t know what he was capable of. The few who did know could tell her exactly how shameless he could be, and just how low he was willing to go.
He didn’t just have the White Griffin. Over six years in Wasteland City, he had raised plenty of smaller griffins on the side.
Otherwise there was no way he could have kept Wasteland City locked down so airtight.
Gillian frowned. Were they actually going to turn around to pick Merrick up?
The cabin of the small airship had gone quiet.
Mabel was holding Freya’s hand, rubbing it slowly, then turned her head to look at Elara.
Both DNA reports had come back genuine.
“Are the two of you both Lawrence’s daughters?”
Freya and Elara exchanged a look. Elara dropped her eyes. She wasn’t sure she even counted anymore.
Freya covered Mabel’s hand with her own. “Grandma. Yes. We’re both Dad’s daughters. My memories only just came back to me.”
“Good. Good girl. No wonder I liked you the moment I laid eyes on you. You were a Sterling all along.”
Mabel had never imagined that one trip to Wasteland City would hand her two granddaughters. She would have come a lot sooner if she’d known.
Elara’s head snapped up toward Freya. She didn’t understand why Freya wasn’t telling Mabel the truth about her real identity.
Instead Freya gave her a soft, tender smile. “Elara, you’ve carried a burden these past years that should have been ours together. That couldn’t have been easy.”
Elara wasn’t used to smiling, but in that moment her smile shone bright.
Freya had handed her an identity and acknowledged her place in the family.
She brushed her fingers over the Cryolotus on her wrist. The Blue Phoenix had unlocked the encrypted data inside, and now she finally knew who she really was.
She was nothing more than an experimental clone the Phoenixkin had grown from genetic material
twenty years ago.
She should have died inside that underground lab. Freya had been the one who saved her.
Watching the silent look pass between Freya and Elara, warmth bloomed inside Gillian’s chest.
The love Elara held for her was rare as a winter rose blooming on a glacier, precious beyond words.
So Elara was a clone. So what.

The same blood ran through all their veins. The same DNA. They loved her, and that was enough.
“Freya, Elara. We’ve got a decision to make. I just got hold of Merrick, and he’s demanding I turn the ship around to come get him.”
Gillian cleared her throat and laid out Merrick’s threat for them.
