Gillian was grateful that for five days she’d eaten nothing but premium nutrient supplements and lived. inside that pool.
Three hundred flower beasts, and plenty of them had already hit level 7.
Lily and Ruby, who’d been holding her up the whole time, had reached level 8.
She had a sinking feeling that if she let them drink the purge without limit, they’d rocket to level 10.
The moment they hit 8, she started throttling their intake. They were too young. No real sense of right and
wrong yet.
If no one could physically stop them, she didn’t want to imagine what would happen.
Gillian punched her flyer to full speed and reached the front line just outside the pool.
Below her, a wave of giant flower beasts was charging. The second they spotted the scale parasites, something feral kicked in. They didn’t wait for orders. They plowed straight into the fight.
The 9th Legion soldiers pulled back on instinct. When the flower beasts turned red, they lashed out at everything in sight. The soldiers fell into formation to provide support.
The parasites saw the flower beasts coming and went even crazier. They threw themselves forward with pure hunger and killing intent.
The night fell black as pitch, a suffocating shroud draped over the earth.
Burned flesh filled every breath. The only light came from the warship’s white-hot laser beams cutting through the dark, turning the battlefield into harsh daylight.
The warship hung in the sky, its huge frame small against all that black. Beastman soldiers on hover platforms fired down at the creatures below.
In the cockpit stood Freya. Tall and sharp in her white cleric uniform. On her shoulder perched a blue phoenix, its tail feathers blazing.
The three top-tier wrist terminals were linked at the outer perimeter. Everyone could see every inch of the battlefield.
The first wave of small fry was mostly dead. Level 2 and 3 parasites pushed forward now.
Freya stroked Blue Phoenix’s head. “Blue, lock onto those monsters.”
Blue Phoenix let out a sharp cry and shot into the display. A blue barrier flared across the eastern front. cutting off the parasites’ advance.
They didn’t even slow down. They walked straight through it like it wasn’t there. A few seconds later, they froze.

The ones behind shoved past the stunned parasites and hit the barrier. Same result. Frozen. The black tide ground to a halt.
Freya gave the order, and the gunners opened up. They poured fire into the motionless monsters.
With Blue Phoenix locking them down, the parasites were fed straight into the psychic arena.
Freya touched Blue’s feathers. “Blue, activate the blue feather George is holding. Transport Wasteland City’s soldiers into the arena.”
“Confirmed, Master. Five-second countdown. Arena open.”
Blue shifted into full combat mode. Freya turned back to the fight. “Precision fire. Do not let up.”
Freya’s voice echoed in the cockpit. Her eyes stayed fixed on the screen, catching every detail.
“Received.”
The problem was numbers. The parasites kept coming until Blue hit its cap.
Freya stared at the packed arena and had no choice but to shut the entrance.
Outside, Arthur and Number Five of the Sovereign Guard spotted stragglers slipping past the arena toward the pool. They realized the arena was already saturated.
They kicked their flyers forward and dove in, working with the warship’s guns to take down the high-level parasites.
