Chapter 235 They’re Eating Me

Chapter 235 They’re Eating Me

Gillian’s hands twisted, and the bodies whipped into a blur. The circle broke.

“Camilla, go!”

“I’m going-Mom!”

A sharp cry tore up from under Gillian’s feet.

The pink camellia lurched and dropped. Gillian nearly flew off. The huge flower body was sinking.

Gillian’s heart punched into her throat. Camilla was locked up, like something had a death grip on her and she couldn’t budge.

“What’s wrong, Camilla?” Gillian’s voice came out sharp with panic.

Her psionic power shot down along the roots.

“Mom, something’s got my roots. It won’t let go.” Camilla couldn’t shake it. Pain ripped through her, and pink petals scattered everywhere. “Mom, they’re eating me. It hurts.”

Gillian’s psionic power hit something wrong. The soil below was crawling with scale parasites, big ones, nothing below level 7.

The one locked onto Camilla looked at least level 8, and they were tearing into her roots in grinding bites.

“Camilla, I’m cutting your roots. We’re running.”

Gillian severed them clean and sealed the wounds with her healing psionic power.

The pink camellia ripped free and ran.

Gillian dumped a bowl of purge concentrate from her wrist terminal straight into Camilla’s core.

“Camilla, stay above ground.”

“Yes, Mom.”

The concentrate slammed through her. Camilla coiled her roots and launched forward, bounding toward the flower beast line.

But the giant parasites below weren’t letting a meal slip.

“Mom, we’re almost there!”

Camilla was flying, but Gillian sensed something was off. The parasites beneath their feet pulled back like a tide, clearing a wide empty circle.

“Camilla, watch it!”

The ground blew apart. A massive body heaved up and crashed into the pink camellia, slamming her sideways. Gillian held on.

The thing’s jaws opened and roared. It was more than double the size of a level 7 camellia. It latched or and started ripping into her.

“Mom, go!”

Camilla knew she wasn’t making it. She wrapped her petals around Gillian and flung her with everything

she had.

Gillian arced through the air and crashed far from the fight. A thick root snatched her and pulled her in

“Mom, what happened?”

Lily had just finished off a level 8 parasite. She was drenched in the killing haze. If the purge scent on Gillian hadn’t cut through, she might have run her through without thinking.

Gillian yelled, “Camilla’s trapped! She threw me. Lily, we’re going back!”

“Mom, where is she?”

Lily scanned and saw nothing.

“There.”

Gillian’s heart nearly stopped. Camilla was half gone.

More level 8s were piling on. Her roots weren’t moving anymore.

“Mom, get down. There’s a bunch of level 8s over there. I can’t fight with you on me.”

Lily’s roots moved to set her down somewhere safe.

“Lily, we’re going now. Together!”

Gillian emptied every last bowl of purge concentrate from her wrist terminal into Lily’s core. Pulling Camilla out of that mess meant walking into a kill zone. She was giving Lily everything.

Lily saw the look on her face and got it. Gillian meant every word. She cared. She locked her roots tight.

“Mom, hold on.”
