Gillian was gonna make them pay.
“Lily,” she called out.

The giant white lily standing guard beside the fox swept her up and tucked her back into its bloom. “Mom, what’s the move?”
Gillian watched the parasites tear into each other-this was the power of Tristan’s glamour craft. This was
She fused her gold and white psionic power. The output doubled and so did the drain. She went hollowin a blink.
Lily had her covered. Gillian checked the blackstones in her wrist terminal. Enough to drop a few level 8$
“Straight at them,” she said.
“Got it, Mom.”
They were plowing forward. Lily’s thick roots bulldozed straight toward a level 8.
“Lily, pin it,” Gillian said. “I’m skewering this one.”
Lily’s roots grabbed two at once. Gillian jumped, and the gold hook shot into their mouths the second they tried to bite. Their jaws couldn’t snap the white-gold flame.
“Die,” Gillian growled.
The fight with the level 8s was over in a breath. Two beast crystals bigger than her fists dropped into her palm.
Lily’s petals shook with laughter. Way easier than choking them out herself. If she wasn’t so freaked out about those mouths tearing into her flesh, she’d try yanking the crystals out in the same way.
“You’re killing these things without me?” Ruby’s voice cut through the chaos.
Her roots snapped around a big one trying to blindside Lily. She wasn’t as big, but her roots were toxic. The scales scraped her just enough to leak sap into the gaps, and the parasite melted into sludge.
“Ruby,” Gillian breathed.
Her face cracked into a grin when she spotted her.
“Mom, we fight together.” Ruby moved in closer. “Don’t worry. Lily and I have you.”
Gillian was about to compliment Ruby when a wet pop cut her off, like a waterskin bursting. She spun
around.
The flower beasts behind Ruby were pouring in, one after another, a river of color circling Gillian.

The scent hit like a wave. White roots rolled across the battlefield like snow and snapped tight around every parasite close enough to grab.
The roots squeezed. The parasites let out that awful crunching sound, the kind that grated on the nerves and made one’s skin crawl.
Tristan watched the flower beasts close in around Gillian, unfurling their power right in the fiercest, messiest thick of the battle. His opinion of them shifted in an instant. Fine, they might be reckless little brats-but when it truly mattered, they could tear through hordes of enemies without so much as a flinch.
“Girls, crush them!” Gillian’s voice rang out.
Ruby swelled, curving halfway around Gillian. Her crimson petals unfurled like a queen’s gown in the darkness, and her command tore through the chaos-wipe them out.
Gillian saw the wave coming and stopped fighting. She pulled up the display and called Freya, “Freya, I need taint liquid. Send some.”
Freya had been watching her side get worse by the minute. She rerouted a flyer to haul a small metal pool over Gillian’s position. “Gillian, it’s on the way.”
