Serena clenched her fists in sheer fury.
She hadn't expected this bitch to be so brazen on her very first day back.-
She really was a country bumpkin with no sense of manners.
She gritted her teeth. "I'd like to see anyone try to touch my things!"
Mr. Harrison, the butler, stood awkwardly in the center of the room, completely torn.
On one hand was Clara, the true heiress he had watched grow up, who had clearly suffered during her years in the countryside.
On the other was Serena, the spoiled favorite whom the master and his new wife doted on unconditionally.
Right at that moment.
The door to the master suite on the second floor swung open.
Vera Lambert walked out, peeling a sheet mask from her face.
Her perfectly manicured fingers tossed the mask aside as a frown creased her forehead. "What is all this shouting about?"
Serena immediately ran to her like she had found her savior. "Mom! She just got here and she's already trying to steal my room! She told the butler to throw my stuff into the servant's quarters. Why should a wild girl from the countryside get the best bedroom? I won't give it up!"
Vera descended the staircase.
Her sharp gaze locked onto Clara's face.
It was the exact replica of the woman she despised.
It filled her with an instant, nauseating surge of jealousy and disgust.
Clara smiled brightly, delivering her words with agonizing slowness. "I'm. Finally. Home."
The words hung heavily in the air.
