Mission: Revenge – The Heiress's Second Life novel Chapter 42

The mechanical voice suddenly echoed in her mind.

Clara's lips stiffened. She had a sinking feeling the system was about to give her a ridiculous assignment.

And right on cue—

[An outstanding socialite must know how to present herself. Please deliver a flawless performance at next week's gala.]

Clara rubbed her temples.

She knew the system wouldn't let her off the hook.

The students around her watched her expression, suddenly feeling a chill run down their spines.

The aura surrounding their class's new transfer student was intensely intimidating, easily rivaling even their homeroom teacher...

"Fine, sign me up," Clara sighed, yielding to the system. "Put me down for a piano solo."

A triumphant smirk tugged at the corners of Serena's lips.

She said sweetly, "The performance is only a week away. Clara, remember to go to the music room at noon to rehearse."

After speaking, she exchanged a fleeting glance with Lillian, both of their eyes gleaming with malicious delight.

Clara took in the entire exchange, a mocking smile playing on her lips.

She was no longer the defenseless Clara from her past life. No matter what kind of twisted monsters tried to drag her down, she would meet them head-on.

She was going to make sure Serena walked right into her own trap!

After lunch, Clara headed to the music room.

Before she even stepped inside, she heard the piano instructor speaking. "A lot of important school officials will be attending next week's gala, so this performance is crucial. We only have a week to rehearse, so I need everyone to take this seriously. Serena from the Honors Class will be playing *Für Elise*, and the rest of you will dance gracefully to the rhythm..."

One of the students raised a hand. "Mrs. Sylvia Sterling, I heard from some people in the Honors Class that they swapped the pianist out for Clara."

Mrs. Sterling furrowed her brows.

She had selected this piece a month ago and had rehearsed with Serena several times. Why would they suddenly swap her out at the last minute?

Mrs. Sterling: "..."

A three-and-a-half-year-old child could get a Level Three certification with just a year of serious practice.

Did this student really think that having any basic certificate meant she was qualified to take the stage?

Mrs. Sterling didn't want to ask anything else. Just then, Serena walked in.

She wore a fragile, weak expression. "Mrs. Sterling, I am so sorry. I've been feeling quite unwell lately, so I can't perform... But Clara is amazing. she's been learning since she was little, and her skills are just as good as mine. With a little more practice, I'm sure she'll make you proud!"

Looking at Serena's pale face and recalling the rumors circulating around school, Mrs. Sterling couldn't help but wonder if Serena really did have leukemia.

If she was truly terminally ill, forcing her to perform would be highly inappropriate.

But Clara's piano skills were only at Level Three... Wasn't this going to be a total joke?

"Mrs. Sterling, how about this?" Serena suggested. "I'll play the first half of the piece, and Clara can take over the second half. We'll finish the song as a duet."

Hearing this, Clara chuckled.
