My heart pounded in my chest as I fell back on the bencher. I looked around quickly to see if anyone was watching, and thankfully, no one seemed to have noticed.

The gym instructor was still giving out orders, his attention fixed on the girl he was teaching proper posture, and my palms became sweaty..

They can’t find out about this. School was already hell with all the bullying. If they were to find out about this, I might as well just disappear for good.

My eyes searched the room for someone I could ask for their help, and my throat tightened from the realization.

No one would come to my savings.

I didn’t have a single friend in the entire school, and if they caught a glimpse of what was going on, I’d be ruined.

I chewed the inside of my mouth so hard until I tasted blood. My gaze fell on the door, and I knew crawling out might be my best option. Just then, Sabrina’s head turned to mine, and my heart skipped a beat.

Dear goddess, please save me just this one time.

A sly grin formed on her lips before drawing the instructor’s attention to me.

“I thought everyone was supposed to participate in this class? Why is Nevaeh sitting down doing nothing?” She arched her brows, and I rubbed my sweaty palms against my shorts.

“I bet she thinks she’s a big shot, watching all of us struggle while she sit like some fucking cripple,” one of her minions added and my throat tightened.

“Language,” the gym instructor shot them a look before turning to face me. “Nevaeh, the class is over here,” his lips curved with a frown and beads of sweat formed on my temple as every head turned to face me.

“Can I please…” his eyes threw daggers at me, cutting me off before I could even explain myself.

“You either join us here or get out of my class. This is not your playground,” he snapped.

I watched as Sabrina snuck out her phone and started recording and I could already tell how this was going to end. The entire school would watch me walk around with a torn short and I’d be too ashamed to show my face in school.

I might as well drop out now.

“Are you hiding something there?” Sabrina asked with a knowing smirk. “What’s taking you so long? I know you’re slow, but we don’t have all day. Some of us actually have other things to d

I didn’t dare stand up despite the scornful look on the instructor face. If this was going to be my last day here. I probably shouldn’t worry about getting on his bad side, right?

I dug my nails into my palms as I inhaled a shaky breath.

“We don’t have all day, Whitlock. You either join us now or get out of my class,” he said through gritted teeth and Sabrina’s

smile widened.

“Come on, Nev, what’s there to hide?”

She held her phone out casually, trying not to gain the instructors attention, but from the way she was pointing it at me, I

could tell she had started recording. I snapped my eyes closed, tinking of ways to escape the situation, but I knew there was

none.

Sabrina signaled to one of her minions, and she stepped forward immediately. My heart slammed against my ribcage with each step she took closer and worse, the gym instructor didn’t seem a bit amused.

“Stand up already! Don’t waste our time,” she hissed, snapping my hands from my side to drag me up forcefully.

I struggled to stay still, but she was too fucking strong. She dragged me up, and just when I thought she’d push me out for everyone to see, a strong arm yanked hers away, making me fall hard on my

butt.

I looked up to see Kael standing tall in front of me. His expression remained stoic and unreadable. He didn’t even spare me a glance, as he had all of his attention fixed on the girl.

He grabbed her hands forcefully, shoving her off, and she almost tripped and fell.

“What is Kael doing here?”

“He doesn’t take gym classes. Is he here for Sabrina?”

The student whispered among themselves, and I didn’t know if should be glad or worried. Kael had never intervened when someone bullied me. He’d always watch as if it didn’t make a difference, and it probably doesn’t because he was the one who started it in the first place.

Her cheeks flushed red in embarrassment as she rushed away when Kael finally broke the silence.

“Can I have a second?” He turned to face Sabrina. She didn’t even allow him to finish his words before jumping to her feet. He strode off, acknowledging the instructor with a single nod, and before I knew it, everyone was staring outside, trying to know what had just happened.

No one seemed to care about me anymore. Even the gym instructor moved closer to the window in pretense of stretching. just so he could see what was happening.

“They look so good together!” One of the students grinned in excitement and I couldn’t help the tug that crawled up my

chest.

I knew this was my chance to slip away, but if I got caught, not only would I be in trouble, I’d also become the laughingstock. My eyes scanned the room for what I could use to escape when noticed a jacket laying on the floor.

It was on the same spot Kael was standing just a moment ago. I didn’t notice him taking off his jacket, but I didn’t have enough time to dwell into that either.

I reached for the jacket and his familiar scent filled my nostrils. My walls clenched from the smell, but before anyone could find me, I wrapped the jacket around my waist and bolted through the back door.

The entire school wouldn’t stop talking about how Kael and Sabna looked so much in love, while I hid myself in the toilet. Once I was sure no one was in sight, I snuck out of school and r home.

I found myself waiting at the balcony for Kael to return. It was le already and there were still no traces of him. No matter how stupid it sounded, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that he came into the gym to help me, but I knew I was only feeding my delusional side again.

Kael Drakenwood hates me. He never cared about me and would never save me. Maybe that was merely a coincidence, but even if that was the truth, I wanted to stick to the belief that he saved me.

My goodness! You’re so dumb.

I couldn’t help but recall the way he looked at Sabrina while I w running away in the afternoon and I wondered what they spoke about.

If that was true, why would he save me from his girlfriend? It made no sense. I didn’t realize how hard I had been clutching onto the jacket until I caught myself sniffing in his scent and gods! He smelt heavenly.
