It was past midnight, and Kael still hadn’t returned. My eyes were starting to feel heavy, so I gave up and jumped into bed when the sound of a car revving up filled the air.

It was two in the morning. I couldn’t help but wonder what kept him out so late. A part of me wanted to go out and thank him for saving me at the gym earlier, but I could barely keep my eyes open, let alone face Kael right now.

Feeling a bit relieved that he was back, I pulled the duvet over my head to sleep when I heard the sound of heels clicking against the stairs.

“Stop!” A feminine voice echoed through the air followed by giggles, and my eyes snapped open.

The footsteps seemed to double, and I could tell he had company. He had never brought a woman home; not since I started living here, which made me even more curious.

Could it be Sabrina? They seemed a bit cozy while they spoke in the hallway. Half of the school even shipped them together. so it’d make much sense if he brought her home. After all, they are kind of a thing now.

“You’re so… ugh!” She moaned between her laughters, and my breath caught.

I slipped out of bed before I could stop myself. I opened the door slightly, enough to peep without gaining their attention when I caught a glimpse of Kael.

He was drunk. I could tell that much from how he was stumbling around. His hands fell on the girl’s waist, pulling her closer as he kissed her neck.

She melted into his touch, and my chest tightened from the sight. Kael whispered something into her ear, making her turn pink before carrying her in a bridal style as they climbed the stairs.

“Kael…” The sound of her laughter erupted the air when the sound of his door creaked open, then closed.

The girl didn’t look familiar. She probably doesn’t attend our school, but I couldn’t help the unsettling feeling that crawled in the pit of my stomach.

I didn’t stay up all this late just to watch him mess around.

“He didn’t ask you to,” a sarcastic voice said in my head, and my hw clenched.

Exactly. I stayed up this late to thank him for his help. Whatever he does or chose to spend his time with isn’t any of my business, but for some weird reasons, hearing the sound of their aughter coming from upstairs made my chest burn.

What the hell is wrong with me?

As much as I tried to remind myself that I didn’t care about what he did, I couldn’t stop thinking about why he brought her home or what was going on in his room.

I grabbed a book from the desk since my eyes had long cleared om sleeping, but after reading the same line for the fifth time, I dropped the book on the floor

Focus, Nevach. Focus.

I crashed on the bed, pressing the pillow hard against my car to op the noise as I reminded myself that I didn’t care.

“She looks pretty hot, though. Did they hook up at a party? He looked pretty invested in her. Maybe they’ve known each other for a while?” I shook my head at the thought. Knowing how Kael is, itd mostly end as a nightstand… or more.

By the goddess, Nevach! Why do you care?!

I turned and tossed on the bed for what felt like the longest hou trying to forget about those who were literally above my roof and after what felt like forever, the thoughts started drifting way before everything turned black.

I barely had enough sleep before my alarm buzzed. I rose to my feet like a zombie, half awake, with my eyes as heavy as a stone. I cleaned up and headed to the dining table for breakfast when my gaze fell on Kael.

He was already seated at his usual spot, sipping a cup of coffee. He didn’t acknowledge me as I took my seat opposite his. His gaze hardened, and for once, I wished I could tell what was going through his head.

I served my breakfast when I noticed there wasn’t an extra plate or any sign of the girl he brought home last night.

Did he send her away already?

A part of me felt oddly relieved that I didn’t have to eat breakfast with the stranger, knowing what must have happened between them.

The image of his mouth on her neck flashed before my eyes, and I swallowed hard.

“Erm…” I cleared my throat, drawing his attention to myself. He took a bite on his pancake, still not paying me any attention, but I knew he was listening.

“Thank you for… you know? Giving me your jacket at the gym-

I hadn’t finished my words when he slammed his fist against the desk. I jumped out of fear, slipping the hot coffee on the table over my thighs, and I cussed under my breath.

Fuck.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, and you better stop being so delusional.” He grabbed his jacket and stormed off angrily.

Tears pricked the corner of my eyes as I ran into the bathroom to clean up. Why did he hate me so much? All I wanted to do was thank him for his help. Why does he have to be so cold?

I have seen him around others. He doesn’t seem to care about anyone, but it seems he has a special kind of hatred for me, as if my presence irks him.

I just wanted to live in peace with him. Was that too much to ask

The rest of the week went by pretty fast, and I barely saw him arund. I was alone alone as usual, and since it was the weekend, I decided to keep myself busy.

I didn’t have to worry about running into Kael since he was barely ever around, so I wore a bodycon dress as I painted a picture of a garden at the balcony.

The breeze was cool, and I felt so much at ease. The nature helped me calm down, and drawing was the perfect distraction I needed from everything.

I Plugged in my earphone as I continued to paint. A small smilegged my lips, as I admired my work, when I felt a shadow

behind me.

I turned to see a maid and removed the earphone. “Do you need something?” I asked politely.

“You have a visitor,” she said, taking me by surprise.

No one has ever visited me at my place before. Not when I was saying alone, and definitely not now that no one was aware i was staying at the pack house.

She must have been mistaken.

“That’s not possible,” I forced out a smile. “Maybe they are here for Kael?”

She shook her head unconvinced. “The person requested to see you,” she insisted. My gaze dropped to her hands, which was covered in flour, and I knew she must have been busy before coming here.

“Alright, thank you,” I offered her a small smile as she turned away.

I knew for sure the guest couldn’t have been here for me, but since I couldn’t keep the innocent maid waiting, I headed out to see who it was myself.

My eyes met with Tristan standing by the door as soon as I got outside, and I knew I was right. The maid must have heard gim wrong, but again, Tristan was no stranger in the pack house.

“Hi” I greeted nervously.

He might have never bullied me directly, but he was still Kael’s friend, and I knew better than to get close to anyone within his circle.

He smiled at me, and I quickly spoke up. “Kael is not around at the moment ans I believe you have more access to him than I’d ever do, so if you’re here to ask me about his whereabouts, then you’ve come to the wrong person.”

I turned to leave when he grabbed my hands. His lips curved up in an amusing smile, but if he wanted to laugh, he bit it back.

“Of course, I could reach Kael without your help,” he smiled softly. I tried to remove my hands from his grip, but he didn’t even seek to notice he was still holding me.

“If you are not here for Kael then…”

“I came here for you,” he finished, taking me by surprise. “Let’s go out for lunch.”
