It was finally the mating ceremony day and everyone seemed pretty excited about it. Not that I blamed them though, it wasn’t their lives that were being ruined so of course they’d be happy. All they wanted was a shit show of two powerful people finally mating so that they could have something to talk about.
Good for them.
I went into the garden where the ceremony was happening and took a glass of champagne from one of the servers. It doesn’t matter what excuse I gave anyone tonight. They weren’t even interested in what I thought. All they wanted was a mating ceremony, and they’d get one.
“You look so good in that suit,” Father said, patting my shoulder and I knew that was his way of comforting me.
I nodded, too exhausted to talk to him. The only person I looked forward to seeing tonight was Nevaeh and I sincerely hope Damon will bring her along.
“I’m so proud of you, son,” father said with a small smile before leaving me alone to attend to his guest.
Of course, he was proud. Why wouldn’t he be? I had been living the life he wanted, ignoring my own desires. Isn’t that what every parent would have wanted?
I lost count of the number of drinks I had taken, and I just wanted the night to be over so that everyone could finally move on. Except I knew everything would change after tonight. The moment Sabrina becomes my Luna, Nevaeh would have to remain my hidden secret. The pack would all favour Sabrina and it’d be the same old story with Nevaeh.
But even if that was the case, I’d rather have tonight go quickly, than spend another moment listening to anything pertaining to the mating ceremony.
Slow music was played through the speaker as Sabrina walked into the garden. She was dressed in a white dress that shone a bit too brightly. Is she trying to blind us now?
She wore her biggest smile, accompanied by the overbearing makeup she had on her face, and when her eyes settled on me, I didn’t miss the way they lit up. She looked like the happiest woman alive, and it’s no surprise considering how long she had waited for this day.
I stepped into the decorated area they had arranged for us, and my stomach churned as the moon glowed down on us. Sabrina came to stand beside me, and I sincerely wished it would be someone else.
The crowd grinned delightfully, taking pictures of us from every angle, while Sabrina leaned a little too close, posing for the
camera.
I stood still beside her, waiting for the elders to begin the ritual, when one of them finally stepped forward.
He had a proud smile plastered on his face as he began the ritual while my eyes remained fixed on the entrance. It was the first time I’d anticipated Damon’s presence in a while. If the assle decided not to show up, there was no way Nevach would have come on her own, and just thinking about it made my hands clammy.
What if Damon decided to come alone? What if Nevach refused o come with him? My heart skipped a beat as different thoughts were pondered in my mind.
The elder continued with the ritual, and I barely paid attention what was happening in front of me until I felt Sabrina’s gentle nudge. She gestured to the bowl of water the elder was holing and I stared blankly at her.
“Wash your hands inside,” she groaned. “God, you’re even more nxious than I am.”
I did as told, and the crowd giggled about how that was supposedly cute. The ritual was almost done, and Nevaeh hadn’t

arrived. My stomach churned, and just when I thought she wouldn’t be coming. Damon stepped into the garden, with Nevach beside him.
My gaze fell on the beautiful dress she was wearing, and I couldnt help the pang in my chest. She should be right next to me. Holding my hands, and not his. My eyes met with hers, and when I saw the dull look in her eyes, something stirred inside me.
Something about her has changed. Even when she wore the most beautiful dress I’ve ever seen her in, and had her makeup beautifully done, I couldn’t shake off the feeling that something was wrong.
She looked skinnier than I remembered, and her eyes… my gods. Her eyes looked drained of life and I didn’t need a psychic to tell that she wasn’t happy.
She had only been gone for like a week. Why does she look so sad? Damon wrapped his hands around her, pulling her closer and I didn’t miss the way she flinched before covering it up with h forced smile.
He scares her.
What did he do to her? I’ve watched her getting bullied and not once did she look this empty. My wolf shook violently, ready to pounce on him as I wondered what the hell on earth he did to her.
He snarled in my ear, and I could feel every rage coursing through him from the way my blood was boiling. My wolf was going to rip him apart and it took everything in me to keep him in control even though I’d like to watch him bleed to death myself.
They sat next to her mother, and I didn’t miss the smug smile on her face when she saw Nevach. She looked rather relieved that she wouldn’t be a bother anymore and for a moment, I almost trashed all the rites preparation and stopped the mating ceremony.
“Everyone was watching.” I repeated the word over and over in my head until the ritual was finally completed.
Sabrina snuck her hands around mine, clinging onto me like I was the air she breathed. She grinned from ear to ear like a child who had just been offered a candy as she spoke.
“It’s official. You’re my mate!”
My attention remained fixed on Nevaeh, and when Damon placed his hands on her leg, I wanted to break every bone in his body for laying his filthy hands on her.
Father joined us with a proud smile on his face. “I know everyone probably wants to speak to them right now, but all of that can wait. Tonight is for them, and the ceremony won’t be complete until they spend the night together, will it?”
The crowd cheered excitedly, and I didn’t miss the hurt that flickered in Nevaeh’s eyes when she looked at me.
Sabrina pulled me closer, drawing my attention to herself, and nodded. We left the garden and went back into my room, but all I could think about was how to get some alone moments with Nevaeh.
As soon as we got into my room, Sabrina stripped off her dress. You don’t know how long I’ve been waiting to get rid of this dress,” she cursed under her breath.
She wore red lingerie under the dress, looking as sexy as she could, but I needed to get out of here. She took a step closer, wrapping her hands around my neck, but before she could get her hopes up, I pulled away immediately.
“Put on your dress,” I said flatly.
Her face twitched into a frown as she stared at me. “What do you mean? This was why you wouldn’t touch me before, right? Because you were waiting for tonight.”
She leaned closer, pulling me into a hug, as she rubbed her boobs against my chest, trying to get a reaction. Maybe that’d

No woman had managed to catch my interest like she did, and ever since we made out in the cave, all I could think of was repeating the same with her… and no one else.
I grabbed her waist firmly, pulling her back. She shot me a look ut she already got what she wanted. She shouldn’t expect me to play along anymore. The Luna title is hers now, but I need to speak to Nevaeh.
“I’m not interested in… this.” I said, gesturing to her body, and she gasped in disbelief.
“The mating ceremony had just concluded, Kael. What do you mean you’re not interested?”
Tears glinted in her eyes and I could tell that hurt her pride. “There’s no need to play hard to get anymore. We’re official.”
She played with the hem of my pants, holding onto the zip, but before she could pull it down, I held her hands to stop her.
“Listen, I agreed to the whole mating ceremony because that is what everyone wanted. I didn’t mind making you my Luna, but you should know that nothing is coming out of this.”
She took a step back, staring at me in disbelief and I took it as my cue to continue. “Nobody has to find out that we didn’t mate tonight. You continue to live as my Luna, and all I asked for in return is that you pretend everything is good between us in public.”
“W-why?”
She inhaled sharply, trying to stop the tears that threatened to fall, and I could tell this wasn’t how she planned to spend the night. The least I could do was give her a reason, however small was.
“Because I belonged to another person,” I confessed. “Someone else is wearing my mark.”
