No.I shook my head. I’ll go alone. I’ll move faster that way. You go back to Silvermoon Pack. Get thing ready. But don’t tell Faulkner or the others yet.”

Before shifting into my wolf form, I looked back at Pearl.

She stood under the tree. There were tears in her eyes. And there was hope toocareful, hidden hope.

She was just like me.

Too afraid to hope. Too scared it would all fall apart.

My throat tightened. Then I turned and ran.

The wind stung my eyes and forced the tears back.

I focused and sprinted toward Lunaris.

Nita was restless inside my mind.

Her ears were straight up. Her nose twitched as if she could smell Raymond from hundreds of miles away

I knew she felt the same as I did.

I shouldn’t hope.

But I still prayed that Dad, Mom, Nicky, and Miriam would protect that child.

Please let it be Raymond.

The trip to Lunaris was about 600 miles long.

At full speed, a werewolf could run close to 90 miles in a day and night. But we couldn’t keep that pace forever.

I planned it in my head. The first day, I ran 90 miles, then found a place to rest and recover. The second day, about 75 miles. The third day, about 55 miles. Switching like that, I could reach Lunaris in four to five days.

After that, I would need several days to fully recover.

Normally, I would never push myself this hard.

But now, I was desperate. I wished I could blink and appear in Lunaris. I wanted to stand beside Samuel,

It had been nearly two years since that massacre.

Laila, calm down. That child might not be Raymond,Nita reminded me inside my head.

RightI whispered.

Don’t think.

Don’t imagine anything.

This is just a trip. Nothing more. Don’t carry any hope.

Because if it shatters, I won’t survive it.

I shook my head and forced those thoughts away. Then I kept running.

I reached Lunaris at noon on the fifth day.

The moment I shifted back into human form, my legs gave out. I almost fell to my knees.

Five straight days of hard running had pushed my muscles past their limit.

Nita curled up deep inside my mind and fell into a heavy sleep. She was even more exhausted than I was.

I barely entered any towns along the way.

During the first two days, I could still find a sheltered spot outdoors and sleep for an hour or two. But during the last three days, I barely stopped at all. When I passed taverns, I didn’t dare go inside. I was **afraid I’d lose time. I only drank from streams and kept moving. Whenever I came near rogue territory, I
