Chapter 26 A Disastrous Mating Ceremony

Laila’s POV:

“Why?”

I was genuinely surprised. “For business, staying in the Mistwater Pack would be much better. The Silvermoon Pack was never known for commerce…”

“It’s really all the same. Just a bit more traveling, that’s all.” Tobias shook his head. “Laila, don’t Worry about these things. We’ll handle everything ourselves. Besides, this is what we should do. All those years your father was out leading armies and winning glory, it brought us a lot of advantages. Now that he’s gone, it’s only right that we look after you. We didn’t come before because you were the Luna of the Ironclaw Pack. We thought you were doing well. Who could have imagined…”

He glanced at me and patted my shoulder. “Forget it. No need to dwell on that. Laila, cut ties with the Ironclaw Pack and live your own life! We’ll help you rebuild the Silvermoon Pack! We’ll show everyone who looked down on us that the Conlays don’t raise cowards!”

“Alright!”

I didn’t say anything more. I just felt a warmth spreading through my heart.

Perhaps because Tobias and his family had led the way, more werewolves started showing up over the following days.

“Ms. Conlay, I want to join the Silvermoon Pack! Mrs. Conlay helped me once, and I want to come back and work for you.”

“Ms. Conlay, General Conlay saved my son’s life. My whole family is moving back.”

Holding back tears, I had Pearl carefully vet each one of them. Those who checked out were welcomed into the Silvermoon Pack. Those who didn’t, like the ones who tried to seduce me with their handsome sons in hopes of becoming my mate and inheriting the dukedom, were all sent packing.

As they left, they cursed and grumbled, saying a lone orphan like me could never hold onto such a vast territory.

I didn’t bother arguing with them. I just beat them all senseless and threw them out of the pack.

Not long after, Holt and Maris held their mating ceremony.

One evening, she came rushing back, bursting with excitement.

“Ms. Conlay! Their mating ceremony was a total disaster!”

“Oh?” I replied casually, not looking up from the military strategy book in my hands.

“I heard that Maris invited over a hundred soldiers to the ceremony without telling anyone, but Holt hadn’t reserved seats for them! So those soldiers ended up taking the nobles’ seats. When the nobles arrived and found nowhere to sit, they all stormed off in a rage!”
