Yet Shawn remained utterly fearless. In a stern voice, he declared, “Those who use power to bully others will suffer the backlash sooner or later!”

Laila looked at him, a cold sneer finally curling across her lips. “Shawn, are you planning to go to the Royal Court tomorrow and complain to His Majesty? Then spread the story that I brought people to smash up your house and turn tonight into a public scandal?”

Shawn froze. How did she know?

Lifting his chin, he wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth. “Scared now? Too late. Unless you kill me right now, I’m definitely going.”

Laila let out a mocking laugh. “Hah! Why would I kill you? Go ahead. In fact, you’d better tell them every single detail.”

“Don’t forget to mention how Tiffany framed Lillian and how she nearly caused Lillian to miscarry. Leave that part out, and I’ll personally pay a visit to King Vaughn myself and have a very thorough discussion about today’s events.”

Shawn’s face flushed the color of liver. “What nonsense are you talking about? What does Lillian nearly miscarrying have to do with Tiffany? I was the one who pushed her!”

Laila immediately turned toward the Whitmore couple. “Did you hear that? He admitted it himself. He pushed Lillian, forcing her to stay in bed for an entire month to protect the pregnancy. And all of this was because Tiffany came over and falsely accused Lillian of

wrong and poisoning her water with wolfsbane. Shawn refused to distinguish right from blamed everything on Lillian. So tell me, are you protecting him or protecting your daughter?”

The expressions on the Whitmores‘ faces shifted again and again. Their eyes were filled with disappointment when they looked at Shawn.

“How could you do this? How could you treat her this way?! She’s the mate you marked!” Ruby demanded angrily.

Shawn hurried to explain, “M–Mrs. Whitmore, I was just blinded by anger. Lillian went too far! She put wolfsbane in Tiffany’s water. She wanted to kill her…”

Shawn’s face darkened instantly. “Who do you think you are? Since when was it your place to interrupt when we’re talking?”

Hatred burned in his eyes whenever he looked at Rockie. After all, Rockie had beaten him up earlier today.

Rockie replied coldly, “Don’t put on that superior attitude in front of me. Bex and I are not servants of the Thunder Pack. We came here to protect Lillian. You hurt her, so getting your damn arm broken was already letting you off easy. If you were my mate, I’d have taken life on the spot.”

Shawn trembled with rage.

After silently committing the matter to memory, Laila turned toward Ruby. “When I went in to see Lillian earlier, she thought you had come. She was so happy. But when she realized it wasn’t you, she looked so disappointed.” Laila’s voice turned colder. “A mother this weak… No wonder her daughter turned out just as weak. You know perfectly well who tonight’s commotion was for. If you still have even a shred of what a mother should be, then don’t let this matter pass so easily. Otherwise, I’ll look down on you.”

Then she said lightly, “Samuel, let’s go. Every mother has maternal instincts. I’m sure Mrs. Whitmore knows what she should do.”

“Laila!” Ruby stopped her, tears shimmering in her eyes. “I know you came here for Lillian today, but have you thought about this? After causing such a scene, her life in the Thunder Pack will only become even harder in the future.”

“And is her life easy now?” Laila shot back. Her gaze swept coldly across the entire room. “Look at them. Who here ever stood up for Lillian? If Rockie hadn’t stepped in, the incident of Shawn pushing her would’ve ended with nothing more than a few verbal reprimands.”
