Chapter 36 Maris Is Going to Vagen
Laila’s POV:
The surrounding soldiers burst out laughing.
“Battlefield kills aren’t that easy to rack up.”
“Yeah. Don’t start shaking the moment you see blood.”
“We won’t,” Viola snapped back coldly.

Once we enlisted, training began the same day. The most basic drills–grip practice, slashing drills, and endurance routines–were laughably easy for us. Ten training items, all cleared in under 20 minutes.
When it came to battlefield theory, though, everyone settled down properly. Of the five of us, only I had any real familiarity with war. The rest had never been exposed to it at all.
That night, back in the tent, they immediately dragged the conversation back to my fate mate and marriage.
I hugged my knees and smiled. “Yeah. I found him. But the mate bond was dissolved. So now I’m single again.”
“That’s great!” Chase clapped excitedly. “Half the academy was devastated when they heard you got married. Now that the bond“: broken, they can chase you again. Especially Soren. He’s going to be thrilled.”
“Absolutely not. He’s terrifying,” I said flatly.
“Exactly,” Nita chimed in from my mind. “And his height is unacceptable. Five foot nine? That’s too short.”
“Scarier than your mentor?” Chase leaned closer, resting his chin on his hand. “When your mentor gets angry, every beast within a hundred miles runs for its life. But seriously–what’s marriage like? Is it fun? You have to sleep together, right? Did you?”
“Once,” I replied. “But it doesn’t matter. He already has a new Luna.”
“Disgusting,” Viola spat. “A traitor to the Moon Goddess. Males really are trash. Worse than pigs.”
Stick and Manu froze.
“Hey, that’s not fair,” Stick protested. “If you’re calling someone garbage, name the garbage. Don’t drag all males into it. Manu and I are good ones”
“What, you don’t accept that?” Viola lifted her chin. “Then fight me.”
“Fine!”
They launched at each other immediately.
I watched from the side, warmth spreading through my chest. I knew exactly what they were doing. They’d noticed my mood earlier and were deliberately stirring things up to make me laugh.

“Solantia Kingdom has allied with Ovila Kingdom? Impossible. They just signed a non–aggression treaty with us.”

“There’s 300,000 Solantian warriors, plus 200,000 from Ovila. That’s far too many. Prince Vance has fewer than 200,000 troops available.”
“Even if we send reinforcements now, it’s too late. The warning came too late.”
As the ministers argued, the Alpha King listened in silence, his expression cold. Laila’s face surfaced in his mind.
Ten days ago, she had reported this exact situation. He hadn’t believed her.
If he had trusted her then, sent reinforcements immediately, and ordered supplies gathered, Samuel’s command might have be enough to meet the allied armies head–on.
But now…
