Victoria was so furious that she grabbed a glass cup and hurled it at him. “Holt, you bastard! What do you think I am? Do you seriously think I’m some slut who falls in love with every man she sees?”
Holt neither dodged nor got angry. The cup slammed into him, but he simply explained calmly. “Thats not what I meant. I just feel like I’ve wronged you. If you and Terrence still have feelings for each other I’m willing to step aside.”
Victoria let out a cold laugh. “Step aside for me? So you really never treated me like your Luna at all. If you had even the slightest genuine feelings for me, you never would’ve said something like that.”
All of her anger wasn’t directed at Holt.
If she’d heard those words before Jillian brought her home to return the death benefit, she might actually have been happy. Lately, every time she thought back on her days with Terrence, Holt simply couldn’t compare.
And besides, the Ironclaw Pack was dirt poor. Ever since coming here, she’d been spending money every single day, while Holt barely earned any.
More importantly, that terrifying Maris was still living here.
That terrifying woman rarely came out, but just having her there felt like living beside a disaster waiting to happen. Who knew whether more assassins would come after her someday?
Terrence, on the other hand, was a completely different story. He came back decorated with military honors, and he was capable enough to have a bright future ahead of him,
She really had wanted to go back. But Jillian had destroyed that possibility. She was trapped in the Ironclaw Pack for the rest of her life.
Covering her face, Victoria began to cry. Nobody could understand how wronged she felt.
Marrying Holt had never even been what she wanted in the first place. It was Caleb’s mate who came to arrange the match, hinting repeatedly that it was Vaughn’s intention. Could she really have refused?
Seeing her cry so miserably, Holt sighed. “If that’s not what you want, then forget it.”
There wasn’t much else for him to say. And somewhere deep inside, he secretly felt relieved.
At least there was still someone who loved him enough to stay.
On his way out, Holt unconsciously took a detour past Maris’s room.
Standing outside the door, he stared at her room. She’d completely renovated that section of the house. The doors and windows had all been replaced with reinforced wood strong enough to provide some defensive protection.

She was afraid the assassins would come back.
Holt pressed his lips together. Maybe he’d been mistaken before. Maybe Maris really was just a Beta. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to fortify her room.
As for that book she’d mentioned before. Maris still hadn’t produced it.
Every time he asked, she claimed she still hadn’t found it.
After asking several times, Holt eventually gave up. As long as Maris continued living here, he’d uncover her secret sooner or later.
Then Holt turned and left.
What he didn’t know was that behind those thick doors and windows, Maris was inside the room training like a warrior.
She was no longer the same Maris she used to be.
Back in Aurilles, under Rowan’s treatment and Sara’s care, William recovered quickly.
Most of his physical injuries had already healed. Only his wolf spirit hadn’t fully recovered yet, which meant a few of the more severe wounds still hadn’t completely closed.
His right kneecap had been shattered. Even with Rowan continuously applying medicinal wraps, there still hadn’t been much improvement.
Still, Rowan said it was too early to conclude whether the leg was permanently crippled. They’d have to wait until returning to the Silvermoon Pack to know for certain.
Since the rest of his injuries had healed, and his life was no longer in danger, the group began preparing for the trip home.
During their days in Aurilles, Viola had gradually become close with them. After all, they’d once fought together on the Vagen battlefield, so it didn’t take long before they found common ground.
Viola often told them stories about the final two cities reclaimed in Vagen, the brutal battle to take Irilla, and the details of the assault on Simonne Town.
She was an excellent storyteller. The way she recounted the battles made the scenes feel vividly real. It was so intense that everyone listening felt as if they’d stood on that battlefield.
And Viola had also unexpectedly gained herself an older brother, Terrence.
Because of her earlier attention on Cottontail, she’d subconsciously assumed Terrence was Cottontail from
the start.
During their stay in Aurilles, Terrence often drifted off into silence. Viola would sit beside him and chat idly–sometimes with admiration, sometimes sympathy. And because Terrence truly carried himself with
