“Stop playing the victim.” Her voice stayed low, but it carried like a hand closing around a throat. “What do you mean you gave everything for the Woodses? Terrence hadn’t even been gone a month when you took his compensation and went back home You betrayed him, and you still had the nerve to take that money?”
Victoria sucked in sharp breaths, her lips pale from the pain, but she couldn’t break free.
Laila held her gaze, her Alpha presence pressing down until Victoria’s instincts screamed at her to lower her head.
“You’ve got no shame and no sense. You didn’t even figure out who actually said anything before coming here to make a scene.” She spoke each word clearly. “Think about it. If Terrence wanted to expose you, would he be quietly putting out word that he’s looking for a new mate? He would’ve come straight to you. The fact that he didn’t means he’s choosing not to bring it up. He’s still trying to leave you some dignity.”
Only then did Laila let go, stepping back and looking down at her.
“You idiot. You don’t even appreciate that, and you come here causing trouble on my territory. Now look at you. Half the nearby packs are probably going to hear about this.”
Laila looked at the woman in front of her, more tired than angry.
She couldn’t even work up the energy to be mad. Victoria clearly grew up too protected, first by her family and then by Terrence, to the point she couldn’t think straight.
To put it plainly, she was selfish and stupid.
Laila sat back down, taking a slow breath.

Getting angry wouldn’t help. Reasoning with her probably wouldn’t either. But some things still needed to be said.
“Tell me something. What grudge do I have against you?”
Victoria dabbed at her tears with a handkerchief, her eyes swollen and red. Who says there’s no grudge between us? You were Holt’s Luna before me. You still have feelings for him. Of course, you don’t like me.”
Laila gripped the armrest, took another breath, and let it out slowly. She was actually starting to feel a headache coming on.
“I still have feelings for him? Listen to yourself. When have I ever acted like that?”
“You went to save him yourself last time.”
“I went because I wanted to know who those assassins were.”
“You still haven’t had a mating ceremony with Prince Vance. You’re just waiting for Holt to come back to you, aren’t you?”
Laila stared at her, her voice turning cold. “All I’ll say is, we have our own timeline.”
“I don’t believe you. If it wasn’t you, then who would go this far to ruin me?”
Laila looked at Victoria’s stubborn face and suddenly gave up trying to explain.

It was pointless.
A waste of breath.
She’d just wait for someone from Aronclaw Pack or Blackrock Pack to come and take her away.
So she stopped talking.
Victoria stared at her, at that calm, almost dismissive expression, and felt the humiliation burn.
