“Robin, what’s going on?” She immediately grabbed Lillian’s hand, sitting by the bed, using her sleeve to wipe the sweat and tears from Lillian’s face.

Robin was already working.

She leaned over Lillian, both hands carefully moving over her swollen abdomen as she tried to manage the situation.

“It’s more than just early labor. I think the baby’s been injured. I’ve already given her the delivery potion, but there’s no sign of labor starting. It’s been two hours.”

Lillian’s face twisted in pain. “Laila… it hurts so much…”

“Don’t be scared. I’m here.” Laila soothed her, then looked up at Robin. “Dr. Sagewood isn’t here?”

“She’s out of town on a house call. Rockie went to get her. Hopefully she makes it in time.” Robin tried to keep her voice steady, but the slight tremor at the end gave away her anxiety.

Viola couldn’t stand it and stepped outside, finding Bex. “What happened? How did things get

this bad?”

Bex’s face was flushed with anger. She pointed toward Shawn, who was tied to the tree. “He did it. But we let our guard down too.”

She explained in detail.

Over the past few days, Shawn had finally started to move on from losing Tiffany. Realizing how badly he had treated Lillian, he had been coming by every day, trying to make amends.

Every time he showed up, he came with a smile, bringing food and drinks. He kept apologizing, saying he should never have treated her that way. He was practically begging for forgiveness and swore it’d never happen again.

Lillian hadn’t openly confronted him, but she hadn’t responded warmly either.

After seven or eight days of this, Shawn’s constant efforts had worn down Rockie and Bex’s vigilance.
