Chapter 47 Our Mate

Thirdperson POV:

What followed was no longer a battle, but a fleshandblood inferno.

Claws tore through fur, fangs crushed bone, and scorching blood splashed cruel totems across the snow.

Wolves tangled together as they fell, the wails of torn throats and the roars of victory weaving into a hellish symphony.

Laila tore a bloody path through the enemy ranks. Her silverwhite fur had been stained dark red, every breath filled with the metallic stench of rust and death.

Three thousand against twenty thousandthis meant every Rydar warrior had to take at least six enemy wolves with them!

After four hours of brutal fighting, most of the enemy were annihilated. The rest fled.

Of the three thousand warriors Laila had led, only a little over a thousand remained.

The reason those thousand survived was the near exhaustion level slaughter carried out by the five high ranking Alphas. They had torn open the enemy’s heart.

None of the previous battles had left them this drained. They collapsed onto the ground, yet still dared not relax, gasping for air in great gulps.

Sweat mixed with blood streamed down from their heads. In such bitter cold, the moisture froze quickly; before the heat could fade, it turned into bonepiercing chill.

LailaManu took a ragged breath, frost clinging to his lashes. Are weare we really not going to the main battlefield? Are we just staying here to hold this place?

Orders are absolute.Laila leaned back against the wall. A claw wound on her arm, deep enough to expose bone, was slowly healing. Her wolf recovery had saved her, but the blood she had lost left even her marrow feeling hollow.

She swept her gaze over her companions. Every one of them was covered in wounds. This fight had been truly miserable.

Everyoneyour injuries aren’t serious, right?

Shane waved a hand. He no longer had the strength to speak.

Beside them, the bodies of fallen comrades and enemy corpses piled up in the snow, their silence pressing down like gravestones on every heart.

Just then, the distant horizon trembled again. The second wave of enemies surged forward like a black tide.

On your feet!

Laila roared as she leapt to her feet, a bloodthirsty wolf howl bursting from her throat. For Vagen, tear them apart!

Another desperate round of slaughter followed. They fought until sun and moon alike vanished, leaving only a field of blood.

At last, most of the enemies at the granary were wiped out. No further reinforcements came.

No one knew how much time passed before drums sounded, and someone shouted, The enemy has collapsed! We’ve won!

Samuel had won.

The tension snapped all at once, and Laila nearly crumpled to the ground.

Samuel truly lives up to his name. He’s practically a god of war.

Ovila lost! This is great! All that meat in the granaries is ours now!Manu rubbed his hands together giddily.

Laila sprang up. Let’s go!

They left the granary and followed the main force.

When they merged into the victorious army, countless gazes burned into herreverent, grateful, blazing

After this battle, the name Laila Conlay would spread like wildfire.

She had earned merit in earlier fights as well, but this time she had held the granary with three thousand warriors, letting everyon eat their fill where they could even have meat. In the soldiershearts, this achievement outweighed any before it.

The next day, after the fallen soldiers were buried, Samuel summoned Laila.

Laila, go bathe and change. I’ll take you somewhere.

Where to?

You’ll know when we get there. I’m going to bathe and change as well.

With that, Samuel turned and left.

Laila went back to wash. She scrubbed for a long time before finally getting the blood out of her hair.

Her face was cleaned as well, revealing delicate features, though her skin was no longer as smooth as before. Her cheeks were rubbed raw, nearly breaking the skin, just to wash away the dried blood.

She changed back into the clothes she had arrived in and draped a black cloak over herself. White clothes beneath a black cloak, damp hair wiped halfdry and tied into a high ponytail.

When she was done, she sat on a chair and stared blankly ahead.

She had already guessed where Samuel was going to take her. Her father and brothers had most likely fallen at Irilla.

She had only known that her father had died on the Vagen battlefield, but never exactly where.
