Chapter 9 Gift
Laila’s POV:
I stared at their hands clasped together for a second before looking up at Maris. In the vision from yesterday, Holt was blocking her face, so I hadn’t seen her clearly.
She had amber eyes.
Her fur was a golden–wheat color mixed with some dull grayish–green. There was a tiny white scar on the bridge of her nose–probably a trophy from some battle.
She wasn’t fully in human form. She still kept her fluffy tail and pointed ears, and she gave off the vibe of a proud, aggressive soldier.
Not exactly pretty, but definitely full of energy.
I took a deep breath. “Say what you want to say.”
“Laila!” Maris snapped. “I want a clear answer. Are you going to accept reality and share a mate and a pack with me? Don’t try that weak Omega act with me. It might work on guys, but it won’t work on me.”
“Let me tear her throat out! Now!” Nita roared in my mind. I could almost feel her claws pressed against Maris’s warm fur. “Who does she think she is, talking to you like you’re a criminal?!”
“Quiet.” I pushed down my wolf spirit’s rage with stronger willpower. Her power wasn’t 100% back yet; I needed one more night under the moonlight to sharpen her fangs. “Then, let me ask you, General Duffy. Do I even have another choice besides ‘accepting‘ this?”
“Choice?” She snorted, her tail smacking the floor in annoyance. “Whether you have another choice or not is your problem.”
My problem? If she didn’t sneak in as the ‘other woman, would I even be making this choice. right now?
But I was done arguing with them. A skunk never smells its own stink.
“Of course I’m willing to live peacefully with you.” I even let out a small smile.
