Yvaine glanced over at Silas. His expression remained perfectly calm and polite; it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
Her parents, however, were glaring at their niece.
"Tabitha, enough," Lucius warned sharply.
Only then did Tabitha act as if she had suddenly realized her faux pas. She glanced nervously at Silas, then gave Yvaine an apologetic, awkward smile. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry. I didn't mean anything by it. I was just... reminiscing."
Yvaine’s expression didn’t change. She stayed silent.
Kenneth quickly jumped in to smooth things over. "Don't be mad at her, Yvaine. She's just worried about you."
"Sure," Yvaine replied evenly.
Honestly, Tabitha's amateur attempt at sowing discord didn't bother her in the slightest. Her history with Zachary was public knowledge in Brenok's elite circles. Even if her cousin didn't bring it up today, someone else would inevitably mention it to Silas eventually.
Or perhaps, he already knew exactly who she had been dating.
She had dealt with Tabitha's petty sabotage her entire life; she was completely immune to it.
Tabitha watched the newlywed couple, her brows furrowing slightly. Neither of them seemed bothered. They were both perfectly calm and composed.
What did that mean? Did Silas really not know that Yvaine and Zachary had been entangled for decades?
They had practically grown up together, dating since they were teenagers. A breakup after ten years was basically a divorce. How many actual marriages didn't even last a decade?
