Tabitha froze.

She looked at him and said softly, "Mr. Lowell, please don't be angry... Actually... Yvaine has always loved you."

Zachary's brows furrowed. "What?" He stared at her, though his expression noticeably softened.

Encouraged, Tabitha continued. "She was just mad. Mad that you were getting so close to that little actress. So, she just found a random guy to marry to provoke you. She's trying to make you jealous."

Everyone else in the room exchanged skeptical glances.

It was technically possible.

But considering who Silas Sheridan was, it felt highly unlikely.

Even if Yvaine just wanted to make Zachary jealous, someone of Silas's status wouldn't casually play along with a fake marriage.

Marriage wasn't a game to him.

And they had actually signed the papers.

If Yvaine merely wanted revenge on Zachary, she didn't need to take it this far.

But Zachary believed it.

People always prefer to believe what they want to hear.

And reject any truth that doesn't serve them.

Seeing his expression ease, Tabitha added, "Plus... Yvaine and Silas are only married on paper. They haven't actually slept together."

She had absolutely no idea if they had consummated the marriage or not.

But she was going to say it anyway.

Because that was the only way to make Zachary believe that Yvaine still loved him and was saving herself for him.

Zachary let out a soft huff, looking at Tabitha. His complexion looked significantly better.

He no longer looked like a terrifying demon ready to rip someone's throat out.

"How do you know that?" he asked.

"...I just do," Tabitha replied smoothly, avoiding the actual question.

"Did Yvaine tell you to say this?" he pressed.

Tabitha shook her head. "No... she's too proud. She would never admit it. You know how she is. She doesn't like talking about these things with other people."

It was true. Yvaine rarely discussed her relationship with Zachary with anyone else.

Their relationship was between the two of them.
