Xylia had no idea what had just transpired before she arrived.
Though she found Zachary's behavior a bit odd, she did exactly as she was told.
She wasn't in a position to disobey him.
Using a small cocktail fork, Xylia brought a piece of apple to his lips. Smiling sweetly, she asked, "Is the apple sweet, Zachary?"
"Very sweet," he replied.
As soon as the words left his mouth, his face returned to its usual coldness. He had been recording the entire exchange on his phone.
He made sure to keep Xylia's face out of the frame, only capturing her hands and the action of her feeding him.
It was a short video.
He immediately posted it to his social feed.
Though confused, Xylia felt a thrill of excitement.
Sitting so close, she could see exactly what he was doing on his phone.
Appearing on his social feed felt like a massive honor to her.
Usually, only things and people of great importance made it onto someone's personal feed.
The others, standing further back, knew exactly what he was doing without even having to look at his screen.
He was deliberately mimicking Silas and Yvaine.
He was being ridiculously petty.
"Zachary," Ryan interjected. "Acting like this is only going to drive a deeper wedge between you and Yvaine. You're pushing her further away."
"Oh?" Zachary sneered. "So it's fine for another man to feed Yvaine an apple, but I can't have another woman feed me?"
Xylia's heart sank slightly.
She was just "another woman."
It stung, but she didn't dare let it show on her face.
Spencer, who had bought the apples, sighed heavily.
He really should have laced them with poison and put everyone out of their misery.
