No one could save her—except Yvaine.

Silas and Yvaine returned home.
Hester asked, "How is Zachary doing?"
"Alive and kicking. He's fine," Yvaine replied.
If he had the energy to assault people with fruit, he was definitely fine.
Hester glanced at Silas. She wanted to ask if Zachary's infamous temper had flared up when Yvaine brought her new husband to visit, but seeing that both of them were completely unharmed, she decided against it.
Yvaine and Silas went to their room.
Yvaine showered first.
Once she was done, Silas took his turn.
When he walked out of the bathroom, Yvaine was sitting on the bed, scrolling through her phone.
She had just stumbled upon Zachary's post. It was a video, and she tapped play.
A woman's voice asked Zachary if the apple was sweet.
He replied that it was.
That voice...
Yvaine immediately recognized it as Xylia Sutton.
She genuinely didn't even know what to say about his behavior anymore.
Silas heard the audio perfectly clear.
"Copycat," he muttered.
Yvaine sighed.
Climbing into bed, Silas casually asked, "Is Mr. Lowell actually sick?"
Yvaine paused. "What do you mean?"
"He seemed pretty energetic. He didn't look like any patient I've ever seen," Silas remarked.
Yvaine didn't say anything.
Was he implying Zachary was faking his illness to win her sympathy?
She had no desire to dissect this.
Whatever was between her and Zachary was firmly in the past. There was no point in over-analyzing it.
If she talked about it too much, Silas might think she still had lingering feelings for him.
"Some men love playing the pity card to get what they want from soft-hearted women," Silas noted.
Yvaine smiled slightly. "And what about you?"
"What tactic do you use to get what you want?"
Silas blinked. "...I don't manipulate women."
"Then who was it that asked me if the apple was sweet earlier?" she teased.
Wasn't he just using her to deliberately provoke Zachary?
