The next morning.
Rebekah packed her belongings early and headed straight for the Fletcher family estate.
Contrary to what she had expected, she thought the Fletchers would at least throw a lavish memorial for her grandmother's death anniversary.
Instead, she arrived to find the house painfully empty and desolate.
Only the immediate family was present, and even Candice Fletcher was nowhere to be seen.
The moment Rebekah's parents saw her, they scowled, their eyes flashing with sheer disdain.
"You heartless wretch! You actually have the nerve to show your face here?"
Both her parents and Sampson Fletcher were dressed in stark black, preparing to leave for the cemetery to pay their respects to Old Mrs. Fletcher.
Rebekah glanced around the room. "Where's Candice?"
Today was their grandmother's memorial; Candice should have been here.
The memory of the humiliation he had suffered at the hospital last week flashed through Sampson's mind, and his face twisted into a cold sneer.
"You have the audacity to ask about Candice? She's covered in bee stings because of you. She's your sister. How could you be so vicious?"
"I wasn't the one who did it."
Rebekah replied, her voice ice-cold. Before Sampson could launch into another tirade, she cut him off completely.
"Today is Grandma's memorial. I have no interest in wasting my breath on any of you. When Grandma was alive, all she cared about was our family staying together. No matter how busy Candice claims to be, she should be here today to pay her respects."
Her mother scoffed, stepping forward with a look of absolute disgust.
"Don't stand there playing the dutiful granddaughter."
"You were married into the Forrester family for years, and Old Mr. Forrester treated you well enough, didn't he? Yet when he died, you didn't even bother going back to see him off! Thank god our Candice is so kind-hearted. She's over there cleaning up your mess at the Forrester estate while you stand here giving us lectures."
The words struck Rebekah like a physical blow, leaving her rooted to the spot.
Old Mr. Forrester... was dead?
