“Mr. Caldwell? Wow, you finally decided to show your face!”

“My god, Mr. Caldwell, we haven’t seen you in nearly a month. If we hadn’t seen you on the news with your brother, we would have assumed you left the country!”

“You guys just don’t get it. Mr. Caldwell is busy spending time with his wife at home. He doesn’t have time for us.”

“So why isn’t he with her right now?”

“Did his wife get sick of him?”

Kenny was speechless.

These people really knew how to bring up exactly what he didn’t want to talk about.

Fortunately, his friends knew when to stop. After the jokes, they dutifully shared their locations.

Korbin leaned in and draped an arm over Kenny’s shoulder. “You haven’t just gained weight; you have a faint scent or you, too. Tsk, things must be very sweet between you and your wife, huh?”

“Get lost.”

Kenny pushed Korbin away. “Don’t mention her to me.”

Korbin and the others exchanged glances. “Are you really having a conflict with your wife? I knew it–why else would you come looking for us out of nowhere?”

Kenny’s gaze turned sharp and hostile. “I’ve never been on good terms with her. We only have a contract marriage where we each get what we need. After the child is born, we’ll divorce in two years.”

As soon as the words left his mouth, the group, who had been laughing and chatting, fell instantly silent.

The bartender slid a cocktail across the counter.

Korbin looked hesitant. “Mr. Caldwell, you aren’t joking, are you?”

Kenny felt stifled. He tipped his head back and downed the drink in one go. It tasted mild at first, but the aftertaste surged up, burning hot from his throat down to his stomach.

He let out a cold sneer. “What is there to joke about? I don’t care for the kind of woman who will use any means necessary for money.”

The friends looked at one another, completely at a loss for words.

This was a private matter for the Caldwell family. While their own families were well–off, they couldn’t compare to the Caldwells, so they didn’t dare pry.

However, hearing Kenny speak like that gave them a general idea of the situation.
