My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 29

Sampson left the on-call room right before the morning shift handover.

Before stepping out, he casually grabbed her trash bag on his way.

They were both adults; she really didn't need to be waited on like this.

Unused to it, Wendy told him, "You can leave the trash. I'll take it out myself later."

"It's on my way."

Sampson didn't make a big deal out of it. "You can sleep a little longer."

"Also, if you're not swamped one of these days and can spare thirty minutes, call me."

Working in the same center, Sampson knew exactly how brutal her workload was. If he was asking, it meant there was something important to handle. Wendy nodded.

With her stomach warm and the heating pad doing its job, Wendy drifted back into a comfortable sleep after he left.

In the workspace.

The nurses' station was buzzing about the midnight emergency consultation.

Seeing Wendy emerge from the on-call room, Sophie practically ambushed her to get the inside scoop.

"Chief Gates, I heard Director Sanders was the lead surgeon for that neonatal emergency last night?"

A surgery that complex was usually handled personally by Director Zachary.

But the night-shift cardiothoracic nurses had sworn that Director Zachary never showed up—it was Director Sanders who operated.

A surgery that normally took a minimum of six hours had been completed nearly an hour faster than usual.

The more complex and critical the surgery, the more it tested a surgeon's pure skill. Director Sanders was on another level!

Wendy nodded. "Yeah, he was the lead."

The nurses exchanged glances, absolute awe shining in their eyes.

"Truly Mayo Clinic's finest."

If anyone had previously doubted his swift promotion, suggesting he rode in on connections, last night's surgery was Sampson's flawless, indisputable answer.

Rumor had it that his first and second assistants had been left entirely speechless by his sheer hand speed.

They walked out of the OR muttering about how cardiothoracic surgery was a field that ruthlessly demanded natural talent.

The surgery required a cardiopulmonary bypass, deliberately stopping the heart to allow the surgeon to perform delicate maneuvers.

But every minute the heart lay still, the risk of post-op complications skyrocketed.

Because of this, a cardiothoracic surgery tested not just a doctor's precision, but their raw speed.
