Willa's sentence was brutally cut off. Wyatt's gaze turned dark. "You've had too much to drink. Not another word."
Willa blinked, her mouth trembling as tears instantly spilled over her cheeks.
"You two just love taking the outsider's side!"
"Get it straight, Wyatt, I am your actual sister!"
If she kept talking, she would only say worse things. Seeing Kimberly's eyes red with frustration, Wyatt immediately coaxed Willa upstairs and put her to bed.
He closed her bedroom door.
Downstairs, Kimberly was still sitting on the sofa, unmoving, a pile of crumpled tissues in front of her.
"Kimberly."
Wyatt walked downstairs and stopped in front of her. "Willa has been in a bad mood lately. Don't take what she says when she's drunk to heart."
Willa's spoiled attitude was mostly her own doing. Kimberly pressed the corners of her eyes and forced a bitter smile.
"It's fine. I'm not angry."
"You should head up and rest."
Wyatt didn't move, looking as though he had more to say.
The room was completely silent for a few seconds.
Wyatt asked, "Kimberly, is Wendy refusing to come home because she's still upset about that night?"
"No."
Kimberly shook her head. "Don't overthink it, Wyatt."
As her stepson, Wyatt had never made things difficult for her in this marriage.
Kimberly looked at him and said, "I know you didn't do it on purpose that night."
Wyatt stayed quiet for a moment.
"Alright, you get some rest too."
"As for Wendy... I'll go find her in a few days and apologize."

Ever since Riley found out Wendy was marrying Sampson, she completely stopped sneaking into Wendy's room during night shifts.
The doctors' lounge was shared by everyone.
If she hadn't been absolutely desperate, Riley never would have knocked on Wendy's door.
"Chief Gates, do you have any extra bedsheets?"
"The beds in the lounge reek of smoke. I'm going to throw up."
The department was full of male doctors. When the night shifts dragged on, some inevitably smoked to stay awake.
Spotting something out of the corner of her eye, Riley lunged toward the desk.
"Wait a minute! Director Sanders has definitely already stayed in here these past two days, hasn't he?"
"..."
She had the exact same terrifying intuition as Jade.
Wendy said, "...We just had food together."
"Say no more!"
Riley made it clear she didn't want to hear about adult topics, covered her ears, and sprinted out of the room.
Autumn in the city was incredibly brief.
After a sudden sleet storm, the hospital officially entered peak season for cardiovascular diseases.
Emergency room admissions skyrocketed.
On the Sunday she was supposed to move, Wendy had zero time to rest.
She spent the entire day in surgery, finally returning to the breakroom at four-thirty in the afternoon.
The move had to be postponed.
She lay on her bed and texted Sampson to explain the situation.
