My Secret Husband Is My Cold Boss novel Chapter 36

"I'm moving into the new house next week."

"Wow!" Jade clapped her hands so excitedly her face mask nearly slipped off.

"What did I tell you!"

"Sampson was absolutely giving you a naked hint!"

"Director Sanders has got some serious game! He escalated from a hint to direct action this fast."

Having just escaped an avoidant relationship herself, Jade felt deeply moved by this level of initiative.

"No," Wendy interrupted. "I'm the one who suggested moving in early, just so my mom stops coming to the hospital every weekend to drag me back to the Watson house."

So that was the real reason. Jade asked, "Kimberly came looking for you again?"

Wendy nodded. "We had a pretty unpleasant argument this morning."

The Watson family's messy internal drama was unsolvable. Jade couldn't help, and she certainly didn't want to ruin her best friend's mood.

"Ugh, forget about all that!"

"Right now, just the thought of you starting your wild, shameless newlywed life is enough to give me a nosebleed!"

It was a heavy week for emergency cases.

After hanging up, Wendy slept straight through to the evening.

She woke up starving.

Pulling her phone from under her pillow to order food, she checked the time.

10:58 PM.

The bright screen made her squint.

On the lock screen, there was a message from Kimberly sent four hours ago.

[Wendy, I lost control of my emotions this morning.]

[If you really don't want to come home, I can just come visit you every week from now on. It's the same to me.]

She turned off the screen.

Wendy let out a heavy sigh. She wasn't hungry anymore.

-

Kimberly sat on the sofa, clutching her phone.

Wendy hadn't grown up by her side, and she knew full well that this daughter wasn't close to her.

For years, she had been desperately trying to make up for it.

Everything had been fine. In the six years they had lived together, the two of them had never fought.

She didn't know what had gone wrong recently.

She had just been stressed that morning and let her emotions get the better of her.

The second she left the hospital, she regretted it.

Kimberly sighed.

Headlights flashed in the driveway. Willa had just returned.

"Mom."

"Kimberly."

Seeing Wyatt, Kimberly tried to rein in her emotions.

"Wyatt."

Wyatt walked into the kitchen, poured a glass of warm water, and walked over to Willa, gently patting her head.

"Speak to Kimberly respectfully. Stop yelling."

Willa instantly played the victim. "Do you think I want to fight?! Mom is the one throwing herself at Wendy, and when Wendy treats her like dirt, she uses me as a punching bag!"

Kimberly stood to the side, her chest heaving with anger.

Wyatt shot a glance at Kimberly, then pressed the glass into Willa's hands, trying to soothe her. "That's between Kimberly and Wendy. Stay out of it."

Willa turned her head away stubbornly.

Wyatt's expression hardened. "Behave, Willa. We are all family. You can't say such awful things about Wendy."

"Apologize to Kimberly."

"You think I'm being awful?!" Her brother usually spoiled her rotten, so seeing him side with an outsider shocked Willa. She felt incredibly wronged.

"Wyatt! I'm defending you!"

"You treat her like family, but Wendy has never looked at us as family."

"What kind of sister steals the man her own sister likes?!"

"Wendy is only doing this to cut ties with us! That's why she made up those disgusting lies about you trying to—"

"Willa!"
