"Wendy."
Wyatt said, "I know you don't want to see me right now. But I thought about it, and there are some things I need to tell you to your face."
"I didn't plan to do anything when I went into your room that night."
Wendy looked up.
She was caught off guard by the look in Wyatt's eyes.
He was wearing a black wool coat. Behind his rimless glasses, his gaze was heavily suppressed.
He gave a faint smile. "Wendy, do you remember the first time we met? You had just gotten into med school. You walked in behind Kimberly wearing a white dress."
"Facing a room full of strangers who were supposed to be your new family, you weren't intimidated at all. When Kimberly told you to call me your brother, you just did. I thought you were so cute back then."
"Before you, I thought all girls were as loud and impossible as Willa."
"You were different. You were quiet and loved to read. Sometimes, even when you clearly knew Willa was intentionally making your life miserable, you acted like you couldn't care less. You just lost yourself in your own world and those towering stacks of medical books."
"Honestly, for years, I truly wished you were my biological sister."
At this, Wyatt let out a low laugh and looked right at Wendy.
"Whether you believe me or not, back then, I really did treat you just like a sister."
A strange, uncomfortable feeling rose in her throat. Wendy frowned and forcefully swallowed it down.
Wyatt immediately looked away.
"I don't even know when my feelings for you started to change."
"By the time I realized it, I already couldn't stop wanting to know everything about you, wanting to see you every second of the day, wanting to always be standing right by your side."
Sensing Wendy's intense discomfort, Wyatt said softly, "I'm sorry."
"Yeah," Wendy murmured, having no idea what else to say.
After a long silence, she looked at him. "If you came here just to apologize, then I accept it."
Wyatt let out a visible breath of relief.
"Then you should come home on Sundays from now on."
